Microplastics in Arteries Associated with ~350% higher prevalence of Heart Attack, Stroke and Death ☠️ In this video ( I cover the new NEJM data, and provide 11 tips to reduce Microplastics exposure 👉 n = 257 people followed for ~34 months 👉 4.53 Hazards ratio of Heart Attack, Stroke and Death if microplastics and nanoplastic particles (MNPs) were in their carotid arteries 👉 Those with MNP and no MNPs detected were similar along other risk parameters 11 tips 👉 Don't eat packaged food (duh!) 👉 Don't heat plastic (double duh!) 👉 Avoid those plastic baggies at groceries stories for buying produce, if possible 👉 Avoid cans, or look for BPA-free cans 👉 Natural fabric clothing (wool, cotton) > Polyester 👉 Same for carpets... and vacuum! 👉 Avoid synthetic sponges and brushes. You can buy those made of plant cellulose or coconut fiber, etc. instead 👉 Avoid heavy traffic roads (keep windows up during heavy traffic) 👉 ❌🦐🦪🦞 (NOOO!!!!! UGHHH!!!!) 👉 There are self-care products, e.g. toothpastes, deodorants etc. that are low or no microplastics 👉 OF COURSE... don't use plastic water bottles. Bad for you and bad for 🐢 'Mr. Dude' (if you get the Nemo reference) Check out video: paper: nb: *A criticism of the data in this paper will be that they are "associative." This was an "observational" trial, not an RCT. Technically, causality isn't proven. However, it's important to keep in mind that (1) You can't do an RCT on this topic with hard outcomes... you can't randomize a group a humans to microplastics exposure and then monitor for the outcomes of heart attack, stroke and death. (2) These data are consistent with prior work and have biological plausibility, i.e. there are data that microplastics can induce an inflammatory and immune response, signs of which we also see in this paper with the increase in immune cell activation markers and inflammatory cytokines (3) In general, the "cost" to reducing microplastics is inconvenience at most. If you choose to drink filtered tap water out of your own stainless steel bottle, rather than bottled, at absolute worst you get negligible health benefit and that water bottle doesn't end up in the ocean as pollution.

Chaired a high-level review meeting today at the DGP Office on the implementation of our Safe City Project, with the 4 commissioners of police and the 3 Municipal Commissioners and Transport Commissioner .As Hyderabad grows rapidly, so must our approach to urban safety. The Safe City Project is our commitment to building a safer, smarter city for women, children, senior citizens, pedestrians and every resident powered by technology and coordinated action. We reviewed progress on several fronts today which are Technology-driven policing, to maximise use of HD CCTV surveillance, Integrated Command & Control Centres in all commissionerates , Intelligent Traffic Management Systems, AI and smart monitoring for stronger crime prevention and faster emergency response. 12 Mobile She Toilets are already functional across the city We decided to have 12 more so that each of 12 zones in the 3 municipal corporations have two each . 2,306 cameras operational under Phase-I, with 862 more underway in Phase-II. Instructed all cameras be kept fully functional at all times. Pelican Signals (Pedestrian signals) to be active now at 77 locations which will be attempted to be utilised by using traffic volunteers to help pedestrians cross over . GHMC will maintain all the 404 traffic signals and improve pedestrian infrastructure in congestion-prone areas. For public awareness, directed continued use of our mobile campaign vehicles to educate citizens on safety, traffic rules, cybercrime and anti-drug initiatives. The Safe City Project reflects what coordinated effort between Police, GHMC and government departments can achieve a safer, smarter Hyderabad for all. #TelanganaPolice
