Today we're announcing #GAIA1: a 9B parameter world model, trained on 4,700 hours of driving data, able to simulate complex and diverse driving scenes from video, text and action inputs. This model is 480x larger than the preview we shared earlier this year and the results are incredible. These videos are entirely synthetically generated by Wayve's generative AI, GAIA-1. But there is more here than just generating videos, GAIA is an entire world model. A world model allows us to simulate the future, conditioned on video, text and action inputs, which can be leveraged for making informed decisions when driving. Why is this game-changing for autonomous driving? 1. Safety. One limitation with AI systems like today's Large Language Models is that they are autoregressive, next-word prediction algorithms, but aren't necessarily aware of the implications of their decisions. A world model allows us to give our AI the capability to be aware of its decisions, by simulating the future, which is important for self-driving safety. 2. Synthetic training data. I believe synthetic training data is the future for AI, because it is safer, cheaper, and infinitely scalable. GAIA-1 unlocks unprecedented realism and diversity of synthetic data for self-driving. 3. Long-tail robustness. One of the biggest challenges for self-driving is long-tail robustness: dealing with the enormous magnitude of edge cases we see on the road. An advantage of generative AI is its incredible ability to recombine experiences in new ways. This is exciting for self-driving as it means we can learn from two edge case scenarios, and combine them to become a corner case. For example, we can experience driving in fog, and experience of jay-walking pedestrians, and GAIA can learn from these experiences to understand how to generate a fog+jay walking scenario. The Niceaunties AI Video Grant At Fellowship, we believe in creating an environment for experimentation and the development of ideas. That is why, when niceaunties proposed a grant program for mentorship and the creation of AI videos, we immediately said yes. The program will help support six artists, to create a Solo Show for the Fellowship Daily program. The commitment is to produce 8 new videos based on a theme proposed by Niceaunties. This will be an open call for all the Daily Artists and the AI video community at large. Everyone is welcome to reply/submit a video for consideration. Each grantee will receive a total of 2ETH provided by Niceaunties and Fellowship, as well as mentorship from Niceaunties and alejandro cartagena. We encourage artists applying to consider this grant as a space of critical feedback and of experimentation. Artists are encouraged to be open to new ideas and to explore alternative ways of how to think of their practice. These funds and curatorial support are there to open up time for the creators to engage and create a space ideal for critical feedback. For generative AI to become an interesting art tool, we need much more control over the output. The slot-machine-like nature of pure text-to-image leaves too much to chance. Using the "Real-time Latent Consistency Model" that I'm using in the example here, is the first time I truly got a glimpse of a future where we'll be able to use our artistic skills and sensibility, to get control over AI image gen. Systems like these will never be able to match the quality or originality of a skilled artist, it won't surprise us in the same way an artist can. Things are a mess in terms of the training data these models are based on, and the questions about copyright concerns and about a time when everything will look the same are very valid. At some point capabilities like these will be embedded in photoshop, and anyone will be able to generate a pretty picture. But to create interesting designs, to tell original stories and to surprise us, we need creatives and artists with something on their mind. We'll be able to create immersive worlds, by making brush-strokes and sculpt marks, without needing to worry about all the dials, plugins, wires of our 3d and 2d tools today. I love to sculpt, I love to draw, and I love to explore new mediums and new ways to create. The Gen AI tools we have today are far from perfect, and things need to be steered in a better direction. For that we need artists to help point the way. Gen AI isn't going away.. it's too powerful and has the potential to allow us to tell stories like never before. Like all other big technological shifts, tech like this will come at a cost, but it will also open up new opportunities and empower a new generation of storytellers. I might be naive, but I believe that human ingenuity and creativity will persevere in this new world ♥️ #art #ai

“Today’s LLMs are the ‘Mainframe Computers’ of our generation” I was on Bloomberg TV today discussing Sakana AI, and to share my view that today’s LLMs are our generation’s “Mainframe Computers”. We are still in the very early stages of AI, and it is inevitable, due to market competition and global innovation (especially from those innovating with resource constraints), that this technology will become a million times more efficient. There is a narrative established in Silicon Valley that AI is a “Winner Takes All” technology, and that scaling up existing models and consuming ever greater resources will require (and even justify) the largest investments of our generation, in order to “win” the AI race. In contrast, I believe that AI is not a “winner takes all” technology. LLMs will be commoditized, become vastly more efficient, and made widely available in all countries. Ultimately, there will be thousands, if not millions, of AI models used by everyone. Just like with the evolution of early clunky mainframe computers to modern computing, how we use AI today will look very different in a few years (or even a year from now), compared to today’s ‘clunky’ LLMs.

We are so excited to now be working closely with the Futureverse team to bring the game to The Root Network 🫡 We will soon begin actively communicating throughout the development process, and we invite the entire Root Network, XRPL and Untamed Isles community to join us as we bring this IP to life In this post, I will now outline some of the core design directions we are taking with Untamed Isles: - Rather than the original MMORPG genre of Untamed, we are shifting the focus to a multi-player instance-based extraction style gameplay loop alongside various global social hubs and multi-player features. - The Zerpmon IP will be integrated into Untamed Isles through the use of fan favorite creatures and the in-game lore/narrative - We will leverage Futureverse generative AI technology to bring a variety of traditionally 2D assets like Zerpmon to life within the 3D Untamed Isles world - The style of combat will be changed from turn based to real-time combat reminiscent of games like Palworld - This will be a Web2 experience at its core, leveraging Web3 technology. For example, AlteredStateMachine technology including B.R.A.I.N.S, the Murmur Matrix and NFI pallet ( will play a role in both improving the depth of NPC-driven experiences within the game and allowing players to manipulate the way their creatures battle in interesting and unique ways Lots more information will come out soon and throughout the development process. And of course, the history of scientific progress is an unmistakable precedent for open-ended discovery and Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned. For AI itself to join this epic quest beyond just a supporting role, to create new magic that the human mind has yet to imagine, we will need to take creativity seriously well beyond the conventional pillars of more data, more compute, and more time on inference. That may be where the frontier labs currently are, but if you know about open-endedness, you know that open-ended creativity is not about taking a test and getting a good score.
