Tom Hanks turns 70 today, which is crazy. Hanks has been around my entire life & as a seminal part of Cinema history. I strongly believe Cast Away is the best Hanks performance of all-time, even though he won Oscars for Forrest Gump & Philadelphia & even though he’s outstanding in Saving Private Ryan. But Hanks’ ability to hold the screen for the entire film here, by himself- with no cast members (Wilson aside)- is one of the great displays of acting this century. Not only that, consider the physical transformation Hanks underwent here. He’s as method as they come in that sense. Cheers to many, many more. 🎂
