Although I'm a big fan overall of Danielle Smith, I'm not a big fan of building up a big slush fund that a future red tory 'conservative' leader or (god forbid) NDP-type party will just squander in a short time

Mark Carney and the Nenshi NDP think it’s “disloyal” to stand up for our province, our jobs, and our economy and to try and persuade Americans to reverse their President’s view on tariffs against Canada. Well, I don’t take my marching orders from Ottawa - and neither do Albertans. We’ll keep doing all we can to protect our province and to convince the Americans that tariffs against Canada are not the way to prosperity.

As the referendum lead, my message is clear. The status quo needs to change. For the past 10 years this federal Liberal government has introduced policies that have slowed down Alberta’s economy, prevented pipeline projects and undermined our province. I believe in a strong Alberta within a united Canada. In the coming months, with my new role as referendum lead, I will listen to the concerns of Albertans and ensure that we can address the root causes of western alienation and fight for a stronger Alberta within a united Canada. I am proud to be an Albertan and a Canadian. I will continue to call on Mark Carney’s Liberal Government to listen to Albertans and to take the necessary steps to unite our country and strengthen our province. It’s time to act.

It is not unreasonable for Alberta to demand fairness from Ottawa. They have shown time and again that they will put ideology before practicality, which hurts Alberta families and our economy. We’re not going to apologize for continuing to stand up for Albertans so we get the best deal possible. Since Ottawa refuses to acknowledge their overreach and its negative impacts, even after losing battles at the Federal and Supreme Courts, we are putting in additional measures to protect our provincial jurisdiction to ensure our province receives our fair share of federal tax dollars and that those dollars are spent on the priorities of Albertans. This week at the annual address to the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce I spoke about how we are helping to create the conditions for the free market to succeed. Our culture of entrepreneurship, free enterprise, and low taxes has made our province the go-to destination for investment whether it be in the energy sector, data centres, and so much more. Together, with Alberta's business-friendly policies, we will continue creating jobs that hard-working Albertans can rely on.
