In some ways, I think Tony was right to get rid of him but in other ways I think he was dead wrong. On one hand, Feech didn't fear him and openly admitted that he still saw him as the little kid that robbed the card game. If Feech never chooses to change and accept Tony's authority, Tony is facing a coup that would be even worse than Richie because people actually like Feech. On the other, Feech wasn't going to bullshit Tony to stroke his ego. Everyone laughs hardest of all at Tony's joke because he's the boss and they want him to be happy, but Feech doesn't crack a smile. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to have that one friend/acquaintance who isn't afraid to call you out on your bullshit

Tony not blowing up the car after seeing the woman and kids inside is the moment you realise there was still something human left in him. By that point, Tony had become consumed by power and violence. He’d crossed so many lines that you almost expect him to go through with it. But seeing the children in the backseat, he can’t do it. What makes the scene hit so hard is that Tony isn’t backing out from fear. He just can’t murder innocent kids for business. In his world, killing rivals was one thing; killing a family in broad daylight was another. That choice costs him everything. Refusing Sosa’s order puts the target on his back. Tony was a violent, deeply flawed man, but this moment shows he still had a line he wouldn’t cross. Ironically, the last real piece of humanity he had left is what got him killed.

Writer Oliver Stone called the exchange one of his favorite parts of the screenplay; it offers a deeper insight into Tony’s views on life, death and glory. Odell Beckham Jr. was asked about the advice he's given Malik Nabers as he works his way back from a major injury: "The only thing that I've said is there's going to be that bit of fear and anxiety. And it's a natural thing. He looks great. But deep down inside, it's a decision for him because at the end of the day, let's say something were to happen again that isn't good, he's the one who's affected. And then his career is then not necessarily in his hands. Teams get to make a decision about keeping you and then things could go wrong. So, my advice for him is like when you are ready and you feel it, that's when you come back. But at the same point in time, you're not going to feel like your one thousand percent self until some point in the early, middle of the season. It's just something that takes time. He's done a great job with his rehab. And whatever decision he makes, everybody in here is going to stand behind him. And I think we're all excited to have him back."
