This was a great show. The exact outfit and year when I first saw Tool live. Undertow is a great album.

A song with roots stretching back before Tool became one of their defining early tracks. “Sober” appeared on the band’s 1993 debut album Undertow, with Maynard James Keenan’s intense vocal helping establish their dark, unsettling sound. At Reading Festival that year, Tool were introducing British audiences to a band unlike almost anything else on the bill.

Long before Tool became known for sprawling, progressive epics, "Sober" announced a band with a sound unlike anything else in heavy music. Driven by Justin Chancellor's predecessor Paul D'Amour's brooding bassline, Adam Jones' crushing guitar work and Maynard James Keenan's haunting vocal, the song became the breakthrough that introduced Tool to a worldwide audience. Their Reading Festival performance in 1993 captured the intensity and mystery that would define the band's reputation for decades.
