There are ENDLESS things to do with land. Nature is beautiful but nature also has a way of hiding even more beautiful things (via overgrowth). Once you own land, the work never stops. Here are the top 5 things I do: 1) Explore it - even small pieces (5-50 acres) can take months of walking it to find all the cool things it has to offer. 2) Maintain it - sure, you could pay someone to clear brush, grade a washed out dirt road, haul gravel (and I’ve surely done that some), but you won’t get a better sense of fulfillment than by doing a lot of the work yourself. There is something about a good day of hard manual labor that gives you a sense of accomplishment. It’s almost like you’re tapping into what your ancestors did in order to just survive. 3) Hike it - Especially true on hilly or mountainous land, I’ll get up each morning and walk DOWN the mountain and then back up. That gives the most hardcore gym in the world a run for its money. 4) Clean it - As I mentioned at the start, beautiful things that naturally occur can hide even more beautiful things via overgrowth. In the Smoky Mtns, large formations of grandiose slate rock get hidden by various trees/brush over the years. Cleaning all that 15-20 yr small overgrowth of pine or oak to reveal the really cool blueish slate rock formations that have been there for millions of years is extremely fulfilling. It’s like you discover a Van Gogh painting in an old attic. The dust, dirt that collected on it “naturally occurred” from it just sitting there, but wiping it off reveals something extremely majestic. 5) Meditate - when you explore your land, you’ll naturally just find your favorite spots to sit and pray/ponder/meditate. I’ve found a few spots on my acreage overlooking some insane views of the mountain range and I’ll just sit on a rock for hours watching red tail hawks screech as they fly by, watching eagles fly over my head and just think “Man, this is what life is all about, how could have have been so foolish chasing so many other unfulfilling things for so many decades”. (Video is from yesterday of my buddy Jimmy and me clearing out some small pines that were hiding some amazing rock formations)

You have to really give it to OpenAI because Sora 2 is very impressive on a lot of fronts: - high quality video model with great physics - high quality audio in each video - high character consistency - multiple characters in one scene - accurate characters voice - social platform attached to it Before today the best AI video models were dominated by Chinese companies like ByteDance and Kuaishou and Google with Veo3. ByteDance makes TikTok, Kuaishou makes Kwai (similar app) and Google has YouTube to train on But none of these models had great character consistency, if it was a feature at all, let alone multiple characters in one scene. Generally you'd make a video and the face would slowly change into someone else, just not good On top of that Google was struggling with allowing people to upload characters scared it'd get abused for deep fakes, and just generally nerfing their model so you can't really use it for anything OpenAI solved that by re-thinking ownership over your characters smartly with Cameo, which is essentially "train yourself as a AI model" which we've all been doing in our apps for years, but in a more smart way, where you can control if only you make content with your appearance, or others too They've also added voice training to it immediately, which people would have to do separate on for ex ElevenLabs before On top of that the social platform aspect: Google's Veo 3 didn't have ANY community at all, while the Chinese video models did, but it was all more like weekly themed contests to win free credits, they never really managed to make it more than that, and it kinda stayed in this nerdy AI hacking vibe This vibe fits how hard it was/is to simply make a video featuring you or your friends with proper voice and audio and everything that Sora 2 does for you. You'd have to go to ElevenLabs to train your voices, then go to for ex Photo AI to train yourself as a person, then make videos, then add audio and voices, then edit them together, a lot of work! We don't know if Sora 2's social platform features will actually be used or take off, but it's a real cool experiment in trying to find a way to build a community around AI in a more Instagram-like way Being able to tag your friends and then add them as multiple characters is innovative in both the social and technical aspect So TL;DR OpenAI essentially took a lot of stuff that was already technically possible, then added new things that weren't possible yet, and then put it all together in a very friendly interface that even my mom can use, with generation times of just a few minutes which is extremely fast if you think of the pipeline behind it (multiple video generation + voice + audio etc.) And also importantly, it doesn't look like they nerfed it much for safety which is also very cool considering the legal risks So yes very very very impressive

This system requires a minimum of 3 key players working together: DNA: the master blueprint with the instructions RNA Polymerase: reads the DNA and makes a temporary copy called mRNA which carries the instructions to the Ribosome for how to create the Protein Ribosome: the tiny factory that reads the mRNA and strings amino acids together in a specific sequence to create a protein Without all three molecules working together, Proteins cannot be created, cells don't function, and Life ends. Everything needs to fit together, precisely & perfectly, or it all falls apart. In other words: this system cannot evolve, one step at a time. DNA relies other machines made of proteins to create those very proteins - but those proteins can't be made without the information in the DNA. And on top of that, this whole system relies on OTHER systems! You need other things like ATP Synthase that makes energy to power everything, tRNA to carry the amino acids to the Ribosome, other helper proteins, processing enzymes, etc. It's an extremely complex, interdependent network of parts & systems that all rely on each other. The cell is an astounding level of complexity that surpasses anything in human engineering. It's obvious this is intelligently designed. To deny that is absurd.

TODD SCHULTE of FWD.us on Republicans circumventing Democrats to fund ICE through reconciliation: Yeah, look—our understanding is that if they choose to move forward with a reconciliation bill, there are three things that are really important. Number one, it’s a party-line vote, and it’s something you have to pay for with offsets. Number two, DHS already has $150 billion for ICE and CBP, and now they’re talking about adding tens of billions more on top of that—for three years, along with funding for the war in Iran. So third, you’re talking about a couple hundred billion more for ICE and CBP, a couple hundred billion more for Iran—paid for at a time when costs are skyrocketing—with what, half a trillion dollars in cuts to healthcare, to Medicaid, to Medicare? Look, that’s bad policy, but the politics couldn’t be more clear. The public does not want hundreds of billions of dollars spent on ICE, paid for by cuts to their healthcare. And I think it’s important to understand the difference between this reconciliation package and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was also a reconciliation bill. People may remember last year’s bill—it was a party-line vote that only needed 50 votes. Last time, it was about big tax cuts paid for by roughly a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicaid. It wasn’t popular, but it passed. There was $191 billion for DHS in that bill—it didn’t get a lot of attention, but it should have. Vice President Vance said that was actually the most important part of the bill—the funding for ICE and CBP. But now, this is going to be about ICE and Iran, paid for by healthcare cuts. At a time when the public is outraged after events in Minneapolis and Los Angeles—when places like Home Depot, churches, and schools are being described as deportation sites—this is going to be a huge, nasty political fight. And I hope Republicans abandon it.

Number two, DHS already has $150 billion for ICE and CBP, and now they’re talking about adding tens of billions more on top of that—for three years, along with funding for the war in Iran. So third, you’re talking about a couple hundred billion more for ICE and CBP, a couple hundred billion more for Iran—paid for at a time when costs are skyrocketing—with what, half a trillion dollars in cuts to healthcare, to Medicaid, to Medicare? Look, that’s bad policy, but the politics couldn’t be more clear. The public does not want hundreds of billions of dollars spent on ICE, paid for by cuts to their healthcare. And I think it’s important to understand the difference between this reconciliation package and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was also a reconciliation bill. People may remember last year’s bill—it was a party-line vote that only needed 50 votes. Last time, it was about big tax cuts paid for by roughly a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicaid. It wasn’t popular, but it passed. There was $191 billion for DHS in that bill—it didn’t get a lot of attention, but it should have. Vice President Vance said that was actually the most important part of the bill—the funding for ICE and CBP. But now, this is going to be about ICE and Iran, paid for by healthcare cuts. At a time when the public is outraged after events in Minneapolis and Los Angeles—when places like Home Depot, churches, and schools are being described as deportation sites—this is going to be a huge, nasty political fight. And I hope Republicans abandon it.
