Tourists visiting Vancouver are shocked. They come from normal cities without radical pro-drug experiments, and they are shocked and appalled by what they see on our streets here. The NDP have turned Vancouver, the most beautiful city in the world, into a national embarrassment. Tourists are openly sharing their...

Vancouver has been asked to accept the status quo on open-air hard drug use, street disorder, and people suffering from severe mental health and addiction disorders without getting the care they need. We can all see it isn’t working. Mayor Ken Sim and your ABC Vancouver team are bringing forward a public safety plebiscite so you can have your say, and give the City and Province a clear mandate for tangible change. A YES vote would mean tangible change in how open-air hard drug use is enforced in Vancouver’s public spaces. The City already enforces bylaws governing activities such as smoking in public spaces. Strengthening our bylaws around open-air hard drug use would give the City another important tool in the toolkit to help keep our shared public spaces safe. And tangible change is needed in our healthcare system. The Province has the authority and ability to act. We are giving them a simple, clear step: create the secure medical care and treatment capacity needed to get people the help they need, break the revolving door of crisis, and ease the pressure on our emergency rooms. This is about compassion. This is about public safety. And this is about real change. Vancouver has carried a disproportionate share of this crisis for too long. Enough is enough. It’s time to re-establish social expectations around the use of hard drugs in our shared public spaces. On October 17th, Vancouverites will have a chance to have their say. #ABCVancouver #PublicSafety #Vancouver

Today was an incredibly important day for Vancouver. Mayor Ken Sim and your ABC Vancouver team moved forward a public safety plebiscite that will give YOU a voice on October 17th, and the opportunity to vote for tangible change in our city. Tangible change in how we enforce open-air hard drug use in our shared public spaces. And tangible change in how healthcare is delivered to people suffering from severe mental health and addiction disorders, getting people the real medical care they need, breaking the revolving door of crisis, and easing pressure on our emergency rooms. Unfortunately, Councillors Sean Orr, Pete Fry and Rebecca Bligh chose to walk out of the Council meeting rather than participate in the vote. They didn’t abstain. They didn’t vote no. They walked out. That’s disappointing. They were elected to represent Vancouverites. That means listening to the full debate, participating in the democratic process, and casting a vote — even when the issue is difficult or you disagree. Mayor Sim and your ABC Vancouver team chose a different path. We stayed. We listened. We debated. We voted. And now Vancouverites will have their say. We believe there is a strong majority of people in this city who have felt unable to speak up about what they see happening in their neighbourhoods and who know the status quo isn’t working. On October 17th, their voices will be heard. Now we have an opportunity to seize that future together, to re-establish social expectations around hard drug use in our shared public spaces and get people suffering from severe mental health and addiction disorders the real help they need. This is your city. This is your voice. And now, this is your choice. #ABCVancouver #PublicSafety #Vancouver

This October 17th, you will have your voice heard. Vancouverites will have the chance to bring lasting change to how we address open-air hard drug use in our public spaces and increase treatment capacity for those dealing with severe mental health and addiction challenges. As Dr. Julian Somers explains, better care is possible. We have healthcare professionals ready and willing to provide better, recovery-oriented care. What we need is government prepared to act. The public safety plebiscite will give Vancouverites the opportunity to deliver a clear mandate for tangible change. Tangible change in our public spaces by giving the City another tool to address open-air hard drug use. And tangible change in healthcare by giving the Province a clear path forward to create the secure medical care and treatment capacity needed to get people the help they need, break the revolving door of crisis, and ease pressure on our emergency rooms. The Province has the authority. The healthcare system has people ready to provide better care. What we need now is action and this plebiscite will allow us to hold Premier Eby accountable for his lack of action. Enough is enough. It’s time to re-establish social expectations around hard drug use in our shared public spaces — and get people suffering from severe mental health and addiction disorders the care they need. On October 17th, your voice will be heard. Read the full Building a Safer Vancouver policy paper: #ABCVancouver #PublicSafety #Vancouver

My name is Rachael Savage and I am officially running for Mayor of Seattle. I need your help. We have all been patient. It is now four years after the pandemic re-opening and we are near the end of one full term with Bruce Harrell as Mayor. The city is still not arresting late stage fentanyl addicts and the untreated mentally ill who are still using drugs, committing crimes and living in the streets of Seattle. The constant presence and unpredictable nature of those suffering from addiction and mental illness threaten the safety and harm the dignity of everyone who lives in, works in and visits Seattle. These preventable street conditions are destroying our businesses. The destruction of hundreds of businesses is driving our cities tax base into the ground. We can save Downtown, the International District, Capitol Hill, First Hill, Queen Anne, Pioneer Square and Ballard if we dramatically change the way that we have tried to help the addicted and the mentally ill. We can have a city free from the death, dereliction and cruelty that current policy is creating. We can immediately stop using the streets and buildings of our city to run experimental addiction and housing models. We can return the police and the courts to their proper role of firmly moving the addicted towards change and rejoining society. We can create a new, state of the art system of care, away from our city neighborhoods that will change the outcome for the citizens and businesses and for those who are suffering from addiction and mental illness. We have a historic opportunity to end the conditions that have been holding Seattle back. We can become a world class civilized city. It can be done. Go to our website and help us to qualify for public campaign financing. We need 600 Seattle residents who feel like we do to donate $10 and to sign the statement of support. Put a new vision on the ballot in 2025.
