Track the inside hip. He did it. Long stride, short stride, shoulders square. Clinic tape. But he misses the tackle. Coming from depth or forcing the ball there are 2 acceptable outcomes. Make the tackle or get him to stop his feet and turn him to your help. Neither...

Textbook cross face situation that sets the edge and cuts off the ball carrier. Drills can’t happen in isolation. Situations dictate drills. Many want this to be one size fits all. That’s not how it works in reality.

@The_Coach_A In the first play, if the corner gets off the block and vice tackles his outside hip, the safety is in perfect position. But your corner is blown off the ball

@RamonFoster @kbull53 @bbishop23 I responded my opinion seperate, but how are these 2 plays similar? I find it hard to compare cause ones a play outside the numbers 1 on 1 and ones bumped inside with plenty of support. Y’all played the sport and played pro so lookin for advice

I could put an hour's worth of cut-ups and spend a whole day on a tackling clinic if I wanted to. Not exactly, but both on a NUB side and coming from a depth of 7+ yards in 1-on-1. When you have 9 defensive teammates running inside out, you take your shot at the outside knee. The OS knee makes him stop his feet and acceleration. Avoid launching as much as possible from inside out.

@RamonFoster @kbull53 @bbishop23 The cut ups you posted at 2 night and day plays from the average viewer aka me, hence why I tagged 3 players that are active on Twitter cause if they agree with you let’s ride, I clearly overlooked somethin. But seems unrealistic to compare an inside run with support to 1 on 1

@RamonFoster @kbull53 @bbishop23 You don’t have to agree with me. 😉 I only share opinions that I know from experience and study.

@RamonFoster @kbull53 @bbishop23 I’ve always appreciated you on the broadcast cause as a titans fan I see and hear you a lot, an not bein one of those guys, cause you know more technical ball than I do, I just find it hard to draw the comparison between the clips. But can’t wait to hear you on the call this year

What do you think of him being fully extended before making contact?

I think that is a bad and dangerous position to be in.

Genuine question, how are the two plays apples to apples, one is a play to the outside of numbers and one is cutting back inside, as a safety it’s easy to attack the outside leg when they’re cutting back inside verses a guy a hitting the boundary

& there is a different level between these two players !

He's got to keep his head up instead his head and eyes drop and see the turf not the runner-as a result it becomes just a shoulder hit.

That’s what happens when you launch off of inside foot

Hooker is also just diving at his ankles vs squaring up and tackling the mid section. Thats where he loses.

Ferris State HC Tony Annese - GT Counter Triple Option - Quarterback Fundamentals... Catch the ball and make a 1/8th turn to face the DE you are reading. Stab the ball back off of your back hip. Mesh with the RB while reading the DE. The DE must squeeze hard enough to tackle the RB in order for you to pull the ball. If he does pull and seed the ball at your chest. Attack the pitch key's outside shoulder (1st man outside the tackle box). If he darts to the slot keep the ball. If he stays with you, pitch the ball and avoid the hit. -Running Back Fundamentals... Take 2 shuffle steps for depth (almost like a OT pass set). Wait for the ball to be brought back to you. Once it is, track behind your pullers making sure to keep a big pocket so the QB can get a good mesh. Once you get the ball follow your pulling tackle and fit off of his block. Get upfield at the first opportunity. -Slot Fundamentals... The motion timing is on the slot on this play. Motion as late as possible to still get in pitch position (we would try to motion at the snap on this play but depending on how fast each slot is they may have to cheat it a bit). Motion at the QB's heals and run full speed. Once you get into pitch phase yell for the ball to let the QB know you are there and stay in pitch phase till you get the ball. -Perimeter Blocking - On this play we will switch block with our WR and Slot. That means the WR is going to block the high safety and the Slot will block the corner. We leave the OLB as the pitch key. We still want to make sure we are square to the man we are blocking so the slot will go flat down the LOS until he gets to the same vertical plane as the corner and then he will climb to block him.

Ferris State HC Tony Annese - Mesh (QB/Ball Carrier) & Motion Fundamentals QB Mesh Fundamentals - Regardless of play, the first thing the QB needs to do to make sure he has a good mesh is stab the ball back off his hip towards the ball carrier as far as he can. - His arms should be straightened with his eyes at the HOK. - The ball should move with the back through his track. - If the ball is pulled the decision must be made by the time the ball gets to the QB's front hip. Ball Carrier Mesh Fundamentals - The potential ball carrier is the one that is responsible for his track. He needs to make sure his is at the mesh point that the QB is creating. - He must maintain a pocket that is firm enough to secure the ball but loose enough that the QB can pull the ball if the read is a pull read. - Do not deviate from the track until you fully clear the mesh. - If you do not get the ball then track away from the HOK and make him chase you. Motion Fundamentals - All of our motions start up at FULL SPEED! It is incredibly important to make every motion at full speed so the QB has a consistent timing. - The QB is responsible for sending the motion back on every play except for the triple option. - This allows us to control each motion easier. - Every Jet motion should be timed as if the jet back was getting the ball regardless of play. - The motion back will change his depth based on play. - This allows us to use motion with a multitude of schemes. - The motion stops at different spots on different plays and each perimeter player must understand where he should stop for each play.
