This is what led to the arrest of Matthew Takaona on Tuesday …..These are the perils school kids going to Mushayavanhu Primary/secondary and several other schools along Gutu-Bhasera Highway go through daily. Countless fatal accidents have been reported on this road because of lack of maintenance. Where is Traffic Safety Council Of Zimbabwe Ministry of P&S EdZW Ministry of Transport - Zimbabwe Zimbabwe Republic Police when children go through such danger. Matthew Takaona, a journalist and publisher was arrested by the CIO on Tuesday when he mobilised a group of parents to cut down the grass and bushes and create more space for children to walk on the sides of the road. This situation affects children throughout the country. Monica Mukwada, a former councillor and MP had the mic snatched from her by Zanu PF hooligans as she made her presentation at a Public Hearing on Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill in Mutare today. She had to be escorted out of the hall after the presentation due to threats of violence. She however, withered the storm as the hooligans booed her but still managed to make important points about the bill. She said that extending the terms of current MPs, Senators and the President is against the wishes of the people since the electorate no longer wants most of them. Further “when we sent the President, MPs and Senators to Parliament, our agreement was that they will be there until 2028. That position has not changed Mr chairman”. She said traditional leaders preside over court cases and judges cannot be politicians. She said the war was fought for one man one vote and allowing a few to vote for the President is contrary to that which thousands of Zimbabweans lost their lives for. She said that the Gender Commission must remain in place to represent women. Benefit Chikomo says he left a comfortable life in Australia and returned to Zimbabwe to enter politics and fight for change. But before he could officially launch his new party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), police allegedly stopped the rally from going ahead in Masvingo. Chikomo claims he followed all the required procedures and accuses authorities of denying opposition parties political space. A senior AirForce officer based at Magama Tongogara Airbase in Gweru, Stafford Ncube and Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Officer Commanding Midlands, Somemore Gate allegedly took a tractor and ploughed down 2023 opposition Parliamentary candidate for Chirumhanzi South Constituency, Patrick Cheza's 3-week-old maize crop in a wrangle over a farm in Mvuma that the latter was allocated by the Ministry of Lands.The incident happened on Saturday and the total cost of the destroyed 2-hectares is US$2K. The two senior security officers drove to Cheza's farm using unmarked new Ford Rangers which Government is splashing on senior civil servants, musicians and Zanu PF officials. The matter was reported at Mvuma Police Station under RRB 5909845. The officers' action is in contempt of a court case of the same matter which is before a judge at the High Court in Masvingo.
