Today, at #UNGA Global Goals dialogue, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and I agreed that the health day at the upcoming #COP28 is long overdue. VbK and I thank Sultan Al Jaber for 🇦🇪’s leadership. And we call on world leaders to take the opportunity to invest in resilient health systems and use health as the most compelling argument for #ClimateAction.

Health is a right for all people, regardless of where they come from - it’s time to stop playing politics and put world health first. It was an honour to meet His Holiness Pope Leo XIV yesterday at the Vatican. I expressed my gratitude for championing every person’s right to health, especially the most vulnerable communities living in emergencies. We discussed collaboration on health and peace, advancing mental health, the impact of climate on health, and the serious implications of declining global funding for health in the short and long term. We also discussed fostering global solidarity to advance #HealthForAll. There is no peace without health and no health without peace.

Today, at Redeemer’s University Redeemer's University, Ede, Osun State, I was glad to commission the new Institute of Genomics and Global Health, marking a significant evolution from ACEGID’s @acegid status as a center of excellence. This moment is not only a proud achievement for all those involved, but it also stands as a powerful symbol of what African scientific leadership can achieve on the global stage. Under the visionary leadership of Prof Christian Happi Christian T. Happi, the team at ACEGID has made extraordinary strides in genomic research, particularly in addressing some of the most pressing infectious disease challenges of our time. The inauguration of the Institute reminds us that the work being done by the ACEGID team is a global public good, benefiting not only Nigeria and Africa but also contributing to global health security. The partnerships fostered between institutions and scientists from the Global North and South are a testament to our shared commitment to protecting and advancing human health. This collaboration has demonstrated what is possible when we work together to confront challenges that affect us all. Under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bola Ahmed Tinubu health security remains a central pillar of our broader strategy to transform Nigeria’s health system, unlock the value chain, and improve population health outcomes. This is why supporting cutting-edge scientific research, like the work at this Institute, is essential. We need to create a health system environment with strong public health capabilities to withstand the potential and evolving threats posed by infectious diseases and the ongoing impacts of climate change. The pace at which new health threats are emerging is accelerating, and with it, the need for robust scientific responses. The innovations in genomics we are witnessing at ACEGID provide a glimmer of hope, offering us the tools we need to be better prepared for what may come. Press release from Penny Wong. To think that the government can give away $100 million to foreign bureaucrats whilst ignoring Australians who are vaccine injured is a disgrace. If they are so worried about preventing future pandemics why don’t they investigate the origins of Coronavirus and the actions of Anthony Fauci. “Australia will provide $100 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to support global efforts to prevent, prepare for, and respond to pandemics. COVID-19 demonstrated that global challenges require collective action. At the UN High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, I announced the Australian Government will provide $75 million in voluntary core funding over five years to the WHO, and a further $25 million for the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme. Our commitment to the WHO will support activities to mitigate the risk of future pandemics, including strengthening national health systems and responding to disease outbreaks. We will also work with the WHO and partners to support coordinated responses to emerging disease threats in our region, and ensure the global system meets our region’s needs.
