Watch the moment Michael Ormandy was arrested for the murder of Rebekah Campbell. 32-year-old Rebekah was fatally stabbed by Ormandy during an incident on Tuesday 15 April at around 10.30pm where she was attacked inside a flat at Knowsley Heights. Officers attended and gave first aid to Rebekah until paramedics arrived. She was taken to hospital but sadly died from her injuries. Today, Ormandy, 34, of Linacre Road, in Litherland, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years for the murder of Rebekah. Our thoughts continue to remain with Rebekah’s family and friends as they continue to grieve their tragic loss. We would urge anyone who may be a victim of domestic abuse, or know someone who might be, to please reach out for help to the police or a local support service. Domestic abuse comes in many forms. SEVEN TEENAGE GIRLS ARRESTED FOR BULLYING The seven were traced by police and arrested following their participation in an alleged act of bullying where a 14-year-old girl was a victim. Four learners from Bedfordview High School, one from Queens High School, one from Kensington High School and the last one from Phoenix College in Johannesburg. All seven female pupils were arrested and placed into the care of their parents in line with the Child Justice Act. They all appeared today before the JHB Magistrates Court and are expected to appear again on a charge of common assault on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. General Fannie Masemola takes this opportunity to warn young people that bullying is a criminal conduct and is punishable by law. “Bullying has dire repercussions. Once you get involved in acts such as bullying you can be charged for assault GBH, common assault, crimen injuria and a host of other crimes. Being formally charged means you get to have a criminal record under your name which has negative implications on your future. The police will not hesitate to act against those who involve themselves in such acts. Those who get involved in such acts will be traced and made to answer before a court of law for crimes committed. Young people must refrain from getting involved in such acts. We have heard in some instances that some children took their lives as a result of acts of bullying. Bystanders are also warned not to entertain and encourage such acts as they may become accomplices to these crimes”, said Gen Fannie Masemola. Through its School Safety MOU with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the SAPS visits various schools across the country to create awareness on dangers and consequences of bullying and gangsterism. During these talks, raids are conducted for sharp objects, drugs and illegal weapons and substances. We therefore urge all people living in South Africa to stand together against bullying in order to create safer spaces for young people. This latest incident is amongst a number incidents of bullying that the SAPS has attended to in weeks. In Letlhabile near Brits, police in North West also arrested a 16 year old boy who was placed in the care of his parents last week. The matter is still under investigation where the police are investigating 20 other children for their alleged involvement in this matter. The National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola calls on parents, guardians, community leaders and young people to work together with the police to instil discipline, respect and accountability amongst young people to prevent and combat incidents of bullying. General Masemola also calls on police officers to act swiftly to investigate such incidents when they are reported to ensure perpetrators are brought to book. School learners, bystanders and those with knowledge of such incidents are also urged to report such crimes immediately and not wait until videos go viral.

This video of a young male student beating up a female student because she said she does not want to be in a relationship with him is wrong on so many levels. I will start with the simplest issue. The person recording and just watching is as culpable as the idiot committing the violence. He should have intervened and stopped this coward from assaulting an innocent girl. The boy carrying out the violence is wicked and dangerous. This is the kind of behaviour that grows into a violent man, a violent partner, someone who cannot take no for an answer. That mindset is already visible here. Women and girls have agency and the absolute right to reject a proposal. When a woman says she does not want you, you respect that decision. You do not intimidate her. You do not force yourself on her. What we are seeing here is also a reflection of upbringing and socialisation. This kind of violence is learned. A boy who thinks this is acceptable behaviour has likely seen it normalised at home or in his community, perhaps watching a father abuse a mother and believing that it is acceptable. I never saw my father lift a hand or even raise his voice against my mother. That is why this is so disturbing. The Zimbabwean police must identify this young man and deal with him decisively. If such behaviour is ignored, these are the same young men who later become murderers because violence has been normalised in their minds. Beating a woman because she said no is not strength. It is weakness of character, weakness of mind, and moral failure. I also want to commend this young girl. She showed courage in the face of brutality. If anyone knows her, please identify her. I want to do something for her. She deserves recognition for standing up to a cowardly bully. And to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Zimbabwe Republic Police, this is what we have been saying for years, to you and to the political elites who routinely use violence against citizens. Violence has been normalised in our society. Children have grown up watching the police use force against civilians. They have seen soldiers brutalise and kill citizens, and they have learned from it. They now believe that violence is acceptable and that every dispute must be settled through force. This is not happening in a vacuum. This culture of violence has been taught, demonstrated, and tolerated from the top. What we are witnessing in our streets and schools is a mirror of what the state has normalised. This, too, is on your doorstep.

Today, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - 2026, I had the honour of inaugurating the Anti-Drug Awareness Week organised by the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate at the ICCC, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. The fight against drugs is not just a police priority it is a societal responsibility. I want to be very clear, the deadline is now. I have asked every officer, from Home Guard level to DGP, to remain committed to this fight so that our own children do not fall prey to it. What was once a transit point for drug trafficking has now become a consumption zone. Post-COVID, drug consumption has risen in both urban and rural areas. Our children are being targeted traffickers are going as far as mixing narcotics in chocolates and biscuits to hook young minds. This is nothing short of an anti-national activity. This is more dangerous than terrorism or Naxalism today and we must treat it with the same urgency. If there is no demand, there will be no supply. Reducing demand is our collective responsibility. I took an oath today along with my officers and the students present eradicating drugs is our priority, and EAGLE Force is in full action. We are working in close coordination with the School Education Department, DRI, Enforcement Directorate, and Customs to tackle this at every level. The Education Department has been asked to establish Anti-Drug Safety Clubs in every educational institution. Schools that fail to comply will risk losing their recognition. I urge every parent to monitor their children closely, and appeal to families and society to help rehabilitate addicts through de-addiction centres. While on the pit stack there was a male in his 50-60, bald head, glasses on and wearing a blue rain coat with black joggers on. He had a chocolate coloured spaniel dog with him that was off the leash and out of control, the young girls asked him to put the dog on the lead while they passed but the man told the young girls “ fuck off this is public land” as the dog was running out of control around the horses Loki spooked and started to buck, rear and kick. The teenage girl was thrown from Loki’s back just before he bolted to try and escape the dog. Loki ended up running out onto Leeds Road where he was hit by a car and suffered catastrophic injuries to his legs, his injuries were truly horrendous and all 4 legs were shattered. Loki fought to get up off the road but of course due to his four broken legs he couldn’t and sadly he had to be put to sleep in the road. The gentleman that hit Loki is absolutely devastated and his car a total write off. If anyone has any information on who this dog walker is can you please PM the page or ring West Yorkshire police.
