Congress raised that money, not Trump. When Trump and his board took over attendance and donations nose dived and artist quit booking. The bankruptcy artist bankrupted it himself.

Trump’s version of philanthropy is fascinating: Get Congress to fund the Kennedy Center, declare yourself its savior, take over the board, become chairman, then demand your name on the building.
Congress appropriates the money because it’s their job. They have been doing it for 60 years, the president at the time is irrelevant to that process.
He didn’t save it. He shut it down because they won’t put name back on it.
