When I spoke with CNN about the border wall project, I made my position clear: if the facts on the ground showed a need for a barrier here, I would support it. They don’t. That isn’t opposition to border security, it’s a recognition that effective border security isn’t one-size-fits-all. Different stretches of the border present different terrain, threats, traffic patterns, and enforcement challenges. What makes sense in one location may not make sense in another. In the Big Bend, decisions about security and infrastructure should be driven by demonstrated need and the realities on the ground, not simply by applying the same solution to every mile of the border. This is our home. We know the terrain, we know the challenges, and we know what our communities and law enforcement face every day. Secure the border with the tools that actually fit the mission.
