Poland wants to invade Belarus, but it will be a real war, – Lukashenko. In an interview for the Russia TV channel, Lukashenko said that the West plans to “already openly join in” with the help of NATO troops. “Now they are supplying weapons there, mercenaries... This is already happening. But their dream is to plan and use NATO hands to carry out [an invasion] from the territory of Ukraine, or better from the side of those nasty Poles, the leaders of Poland, to seize Belarus and stretch this line almost to Leningrad, as it was once,” the president of Belarus said. Lukashenko said that Belarus and Russia could develop a plan of attack on Poland. According to him, Moscow and Minsk have a “well-developed plan” for the defense of the western border of Belarus. But “if necessary, this plan can be changed into an offensive one.”

Lukashenko was urgently summoned to meet with Putin. It will be interesting if, immediately after this urgent visit to Moscow, Lukashenko suddenly makes an unplanned trip to Beijing. The visit to Moscow comes amid increased Russian attacks on Kyiv, following CIA Director Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow and amid accelerated construction of a military base and access roads in Belarus, directly near the border with Ukraine. Of course, Putin will discuss the war with Lukashenko. But Lukashenko will agree to allow his territory to be used for an attack on Ukraine and the Baltic states only if China tells him to do so. While the world focuses on the Iran war, important developments are unfolding around Belarus. This is a short summary of my thoughts. A longer and much more detailed post is in first comment. Let me know how this double format works. Today, Lukashenko begins his first official visit to North Korea (March 25-26), discussing economic & military cooperation with Kim Jong Un. This cooperation is in close coordination with Russia. Meanwhile, the US is considering further development of relations with Belarus and a possible meeting of Lukashenko and Trump is being discussed. The US already removed sanctions from Belarus potash, some banks and the finance ministry. Obviously, Belarus is a Russian proxy. The US won't "detach" Belarus from Russia. Its goal is to create a controlled channel to Belarus and Russian potash (the US is 92% dependent on their imports). Currently, China takes about 70% of Belarussian potash. This may shift if a part of Belarus potash is bought by the US. Fertilizer prices have sharply increased due to the war in the Middle East. Implications for Ukraine: the risk is Belarus becoming a functional buffer for Russian resources. We need our own pragmatic strategy to counter that.⤵️

I went to Minsk to challenge the “Belarus is bad” narrative. More Americans are beginning to say: we may not agree with leaders like Lukashenko, Xi, or Putin, but that does not mean we have to hate them. As legacy media loses its grip and alternative voices gain ground, the old rhetoric is no longer working.

My goal is to show the real Belarus: a country trying to preserve its sovereignty, refusing to be controlled by the West, and choosing relations with Russia, China, and others on its own terms. You may agree or disagree with Lukashenko, but people in the West should at least understand how he sees his role – and why that matters.
