The men were caught on camera, appearing to relieve themselves on the neighbor's lawn after that neighbor allowed their dog to pee on the men's lawn. Following the urination from both parties, a scuffle broke out, leading to the stabbing of the two dog owners. The father of the 34-year-old suspect, Hakeem Alexander, was also stabbed during the chaos. The three people who were stabbed were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
