President Donald Trump, when asked Tuesday about the possibility of federal agents at polling places during the November midterm elections, told PBS News’ Liz Landers (Liz Landers) that he supports "anything" to ensure "honest elections." Federal law bars the deployment of “troops or armed men” at polling stations and prohibits voter intimidation. The Department of Homeland Security told state officials earlier this year that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will not be present at voting locations during the midterm elections. Yet other Trump administration officials have not unequivocally knocked down the idea. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said earlier this month that he was “not sure of the uproar of the risk of having a Border Patrol or an ICE agent at a polling location, or looking into whether somebody is voting that shouldn't be.” Federal law prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections; some municipalities allow them to vote in local elections.

BREAKING: Kristi Noem repeatedly refused to rule out sending ICE to polling places during the midterm elections when Senator Chris Coons asked. “We have no plans on having ICE officers at polling locations.” Repeatedly she refused to say she’d rule it out, and refused to say she would issue a directive to the agency not to have ICE agents anywhere near the polls in November. In other words, they will send ICE agents to the polls in order to intimidate black and brown people. This is a violation of federal law.

ICE showed up outside the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District center on election day (June 2). No entry into the voting area, just presence. Local rangers intervened and the agents left after ~30 minutes. Why the meltdown? Sources say one big reason for their decision is pressure from the Trump administration to investigate Good’s widow. It comes as federal agents continue to use aggressive tactics on protesters in Minnesota. Roughly 2,800 federal agents are in the Twin Cities — more than double the number of local police.

Kathy Hochul (D-NY) says New York doesn’t have the election security resources it needs ahead of the November midterm elections, telling Margaret Brennan “the federal government has basically been dismantling all the protections that we've come to rely on to protect this core essence of our democracy.” “I'll make sure that we are protected, but I can't count on the federal government for anything in this space,” she says. Hochul also adds she’s concerned the Trump administration will deploy federal immigration agents at polling places during the upcoming November midterms. “They don't follow the law very much at all,” she adds.
