Two years ago today, January 7th 2024, Palestinian journalist Hamza El-Dahdouh the son of Al Jazeera Gaza bureau chief Wael El-Dahdouh was killed in an Israeli strike while reporting in central Gaza. Months earlier, Israeli airstrikes had already killed Wael El-Dahdouh’s wife, children, and grandson, a targeted attack in attempt to have him stop reporting, which ultimately failed.

One day, the hostages, injured and surviving on only half a pita a day, were forced to walk for 12 hours inside the tunnels. Eitan was ready to give up, but the others wouldn’t let him.
