In 2006, Tyson gutted their Norfolk plant so no competitor could buy it. It's sat empty ever since. Now they've closed Lexington instead of selling it, killing competition and manipulating cattle prices. That breaks the Packers and Stockyards Act. Tyson isn't above the law.

ICYMI: More than 2,500 workers in Joslin, Illinois were laid off this week with no notice after Tyson Foods announced the closure of the beef plant there. Thousands of workers and their families have lost their livelihood because of a decision made in a corporate boardroom. Beef prices are rising in stores, and Tyson is still raking in huge profits. Tyson just reported a profit of $182 million over the past three months. Last year, the CEO of Tyson was made $34.5 million, almost 800 times the average pay of a Tyson employee. Corporate consolidation means that Tyson plants process 20% of the beef, pork, and poultry sold in the US. In addition to corporate price gouging, a shortage of cattle is also driving up US beef prices. Cattle supplies in the US have fallen in part because of drought caused by climate change and grazing land loss caused by ranching practices. These layoffs, high prices, and environmental issues are all because the food system under capitalism prioritizes profits over the needs of people or the planet.

NEW: Tyson plans to lay off 30% of Lexington, Nebraska, on January 20 when they close a major beef processing plant. Residents are panicking. One worker told us he doesn’t know how he will feed his children or pay for his house. And 3,200 layoffs are just the tip of the iceberg. Without the largest employer in town, many small businesses are also at risk.

An inside look at the Tyson beef processing plant that is closing in Joslin, Illinois Tyson bans phone use on the production factory floor but since all these employees have been told they’re being fired they don’t care and are filming Roughly 3,100 cattle were processed here every day and now local cattle ranchers are struggling to find where they will process their cows. I did hear there was another plant over 100 miles away some ranchers will now have to make the journey to use Keep in mind while they are closing these processing plants, Tyson is paying out their executives record breaking profits, their CEO made $34 million, other executives are making $17 million and $6 million+ per year

Tyson is shutting down its Lexington, Nebraska plant in January 2026. That’s 3,200 workers gone in one shot, the largest plant shutdown in company history. Blame Trump’s tariff chaos and the lowest cattle inventories in decades. Tariffs jack up costs. Supply shrinks. Plants close. Towns hollow out. This single closure wipes out nearly 5% of the nation’s daily beef capacity. Add another 1,700 jobs lost in Amarillo, Texas, and it’s obvious what’s happening: the beef supply is under stress and workers are eating the fallout.

More than 2,500 Tyson employees were told they are being laid off and will be receiving final paychecks. Tyson made the decision to close its Joslin, Illinois beef processing plant Workers arriving for shifts were directed to the cafeteria and given letters confirming the permanent shutdown “Tyson told shareholders they expect losses around $650 million this fiscal year in its beef processing sector alone. Company officials claim cattle shortages and high livestock costs are to blame for that massive loss. But that reasoning doesn't do much for the workers who now only have a few weeks to find where their next paycheck is coming from” Tyson cited “one of the most historic cattle shortages the country has ever experienced.” Recent USDA data showed supplies will stay low. The U.S. cattle herd is near a 75 year low As the workers came in the scene was described as chaos, yelling, crying and a sense of betrayal from long term employees Beef prices have gone up roughly 80% just since 2016 Pretty ironic that beef prices skyrocket and there is a cow shortage as soon as globalists start their push towards not wanting us to eat beef…. This is all coordinated

🚨 TYSON FOODS WORKER FILMS THE FINAL DAY INSIDE ITS ILLINOIS PLANT — AND THE FLOOR VIDEO HAS PEOPLE SICK Someone posted the last day of work at a Tyson Foods plant in Illinois and the comments did not treat it like a goodbye party. “This is the last day and they’re acting like it’s a field trip. That’s the meat.” “Wave at the camera like we haven’t been eating out of this building.” “If this is the goodbye video, I don’t want to see the regular shift.” This is the plant that processes the meat a lot of the country eats… and the last day footage does not look like the commercial. People are watching it next to the old Tyson stories... the shutdowns, the pollution fights, the workers who already said they’d seen too much... and calling this the footage that finally matches the rumors. Would you still eat that meat after watching this… or did Tyson just show you the part they never put in the ad?

Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts tells Drop Site News he is standing behind the legality of Tyson’s decision to close its Lexington beef-processing plant, despite the Packers and Stockyards Act barring such plant closures aimed at price manipulation. The plant employed 3,200 Nebraskans in a town of 10,000 people before it shuttered on January 20. “They are not violating the Stockers Packyards [Act],” Ricketts told Drop Site’s Julian Andreone, mangling the name of the law that could protect the town from total devastation. Ricketts had previously told reporters he was “taking a look at” whether Tyson violated the law, as his independent opponent Dan Osborn has alleged. Watch: Julian Andreone | Senator Pete Ricketts

2,500 workers showed up to the beef plant in Joslin, Illinois on a Thursday morning and were told their jobs were over. Immediately. Tyson Foods announced August 13th it was closing the Joslin facility. Not a phased shutdown. Workers were told on the spot. That same week: Eagle Mountain, Utah. Closed. Pasco, Washington. Up for sale. Earlier this year, Lexington, Nebraska. 3,200 jobs gone. A town of 10,000 people lost its economic backbone overnight. The US cattle herd is at a 75-year low. The smallest since 1951. Tyson says there aren't enough cattle to justify running these plants. Beef prices have already climbed 70% over five years. Ground beef over $6 a pound. And now processing capacity is shrinking on top of it. Fewer plants. Fewer workers. Less beef. Higher prices. That is the trajectory. That breakdown from A Homestead Journey laid it out plain. This is why I raise my own and sell direct. When the middle collapses, the people who source locally still eat. Your rancher, Jason Hanley | 208-714-0478

The monopoly that the Big Four meat processing companies (Cargill, JBS, Tyson and National Beef) have on the market is a HUGE reason why beef prices are so high. Breaking up this monopoly is one of the most effective ways we can lower beef prices and this decision will help not only ranchers, but Americans in the long term. Positive news out of the admin, especially after last week’s decision to import 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef.
