Think beyond the grocery store shelf, into the supply chain, and even back to the farm, then you’ll start to realize just how it all works. Expanding Poultry Processing and Strengthening Food Security in Ogun State We have taken another decisive step in repositioning agriculture as a pillar of our economic transformation and food security agenda. With the completion of a 5,000-birds-per-day poultry processing facility at Ajegunle Farm Settlement, Odeda Local Government Area, under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), Ogun State now has the capacity to process an additional 1.3 million birds annually. This intervention will significantly reduce poultry importation and strengthen local production at a time Nigeria still imports about 70 per cent of its poultry needs. Ajegunle Farm Settlement, which we have designated as a poultry hub, currently hosts about 400 resident farmers and continues to attract private investors. We have provided supporting infrastructure including blast freezers, cold rooms, waste processing facilities, a modern warehouse with fitted offices, and poultry pens with a combined capacity of 20,000 birds. We are encouraged by the growing private sector confidence, as a private investor has just completed a 13,000-capacity poultry pen within the settlement.
