We have substantially completed the reconstruction of Tam Balogun Road in Ijebu-Ode, with all major asphalt works now finished under our administration’s ongoing drive to strengthen road infrastructure across Ogun State. The project is currently at about 98% completion, with only lane markings left to be carried out. With both the binder and final wearing courses in place, the road is fully motorable and already improving movement, safety, and travel time for residents and road users. When you concentrate 25,000-50,000 birds under one roof, feed them GMOs, medicate, and vaccinate them, it’s no surprise they get sick. Birds that are pasture-raised are healthier and sick less often. We fully supported this rule that would fix the broken “tournament system” used by corporations that dominate the poultry industry to pit small farmers against each other. Ogun State to Build Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring We are thrilled to announce our administration’s plans to construct a state-of-the-art Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in Abeokuta, a testament to our commitment to promoting sports development in Ogun State. During a visit to our office by two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, we proudly confirmed him as our official sports ambassador. We also invited him to light the Gateway Games National Sports Festival torch, now scheduled for May next year. This initiative goes hand in hand with our extensive efforts to refurbish and reconstruct sporting facilities across the state in preparation for hosting the festival. Sports, being a unifying force, will not only inspire our youth but also spotlight Ogun State as a hub for talent and excellence. At the center of the farm’s irrigation strategy is a 23-acre reservoir with a storage capacity of 1.2 million cubic metres of water, forming the backbone of a water management system designed to stabilize cultivation cycles in a region where rainfall variability can affect traditional farming patterns. Beyond cultivation, the farm has also invested heavily in post-harvest systems. Its processing complex includes a rice mill with a capacity of three tonnes per hour, supported by a dryer, an ultra-modern warehouse, and silo storage capable of holding 1,300 metric tonnes of paddy rice. Together, these facilities allow the farm to move beyond primary production into value addition, strengthening the agricultural value chain and reducing post-harvest losses. The results are already becoming visible in the fields. Current yields are averaging 3.5 tonnes of rice per acre, reflecting the benefits of improved seed selection, irrigation, and modern cultivation methods implemented across the farm. Today marks another pivotal moment in our journey to transform waste management in Lagos. I had the honour of facilitating the signing of a landmark agreement between the Lagos State Government and ZoomLion Nigeria, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group. This partnership is a bold step forward in our collective effort to overhaul how we manage the over 13,000 tonnes of waste generated daily in our state. For decades, the Olusosun dumpsite has stood as a symbol of the burden of uncontrolled urban waste. Through this new agreement, we are on the cusp of a major breakthrough. A state-of-the-art Transfer Loading Station will be constructed at Olusosun, serving as a central hub to redirect 2,500 tonnes of daily waste to a newly planned Material Recovery Facility in Ikorodu. This will allow us to permanently close Olusosun - a move that not only improves public health and safety but also significantly reduces the environmental impact of open dumping. In Igando, the Solous III dumpsite will also witness a major shift. With a new recovery facility planned for Badagry, we’ll be relocating 1,500 tonnes of waste daily; showing our commitment to decentralising and modernising waste handling in Lagos. What excites me most is the impact this will have beyond cleaner streets. Over 5,000 jobs, both direct and indirect will be created through this project. From waste processing technicians to logistics and facility maintenance staff, we are opening up a whole new ecosystem around waste recovery and circular economy opportunities. At the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, we’ve always believed that Lagos’ environmental future must be built on innovation, collaboration, and a firm resolve to act.
