As I listened to Adarniya Pradhan Mantri Shri Narendra Modi ji's #MannKiBaat, I was thinking about how the fight against drugs cannot be a fragmented effort- it must be a national mission carried forward with equal resolve at the Centre and in every state. Prime Minister's vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat and the Nasha Mukt Yuva movement for a Viksit Bharat, speaks to something Assam has believed in and acted upon for years: that youth are our greatest asset and protecting them from the poison of narcotics is our sworn duty. Since 2021, with a single minded focus, on our mission #AssamAgainstDrugs, our police and allied agencies have waged a relentless, daily battle against the narcotics trade. The numbers tell their own story- narcotics worth more than ₹3,253 crore seized, and over 26,500 offenders arrested since the campaign began. Arrests have climbed steadily each year, from 4,175 in 2021 to 4,901 in 2025- proving that this is not a one-time drive but a sustained, institutionalised war. Few weeks back, we publicly destroyed seized contraband worth ₹472+crore at Nalbari- driving home the message that what is seized will never re-enter the homes of any Assamese family. We have done this knowing full well the scale of the challenge. Assam sits on a difficult geography- a transit corridor for narcotics originating in Myanmar and routed through Mizoram and Manipur before moving deeper into the country. Kingpins often operate beyond our borders, which is precisely why this cannot be Assam's fight alone. This is where the Prime Minister's leadership and the Centre's unwavering support have made a real difference- intensified coordination with Myanmar, strengthened surveillance along inter-state borders, sharper intelligence sharing and deployment of technology that helps our forces intercept consignments before they spread further. Assam Police has not worked in isolation; it has worked as an extension of a national resolve to eliminate the menace of drugs. Prime Minister Modi ji has always said that addiction is neither cool nor a style statement; drugs bring only destruction and devastation to families and communities. Thus, his Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, with a hundred weeks of grassroots engagement reaching crores of young Indians, is a call to every state to match energy with intent. Assam answers that call with pride, as a frontline partner in a mission central to India's future. Our fight will not pause. Every seizure means a family protected and a future secured. The March 26 interview with France Télévisions is no exception. Let's break it down and point out where there are lies and where there is manipulation. 1. Lavrov claims that Russia is supposedly defending international law while speaking in the "language of principles" regarding Iran. What's wrong: it's basic role reversal. Moscow is trying to speak from the position of a "guardian of the law," even though it is waging an aggressive war against Ukraine. In the case of Iran, Lavrov is also deliberately omitting half the picture: yes, the US withdrew from the nuclear deal, but Iran also faced non-proliferation concerns raised by the IAEA. Why it matters: It is an attempt to whitewash Russia's crimes through someone else's crisis and to present the aggressor (Russia) as the judge. 2. Russia does not provide Iran with intelligence; the coordinates of US bases are "already known to everyone." What's wrong: it's an evasive statement, not a complete refutation. Archaeologists in Livorno, Italy, are putting together the pieces of a great mystery that began with a stunning find. While hiking in a cleared area of a Tuscan forest northeast of Livorno, a member of the Livorno Paleontological Archaeological Group spotted a few glimmering coins in the dirt in November 2021. Upon closer inspection and excavation, researchers determined that the find included 175 silver Roman denarii coins. Nearly all were in good condition, making this one of the few hoards of ancient coins found intact, according to the group. But the discovery prompted a number of questions: Whose treasure was it? Who were they hiding it from? And why didn’t they come back for it? The archaeological group, along with the archaeologist official for the provinces of Pisa and Livorno, Dr. Lorella Alderighi, has spent more than a year measuring, weighing and documenting the coins, according to a news release posted on its Facebook page. Now, the researchers think they have some answers. “This treasure is about a person’s life, the savings of a soldier’s life and his hopes for building his farm,” Alderighi said via email. “However, it also tells a sad story: (T)he owner of the coins died before he could make his dreams come true using his savings. The coins tell his story.” The hoard now displayed at the Museum of Natural History of the Mediterranean in Livorno. It’s impossible to know exactly who buried the coins, Alderighi said, but the coins would most likely have been the treasure of a former soldier who served during Rome’s Social War from 91-88 BC and during civil war between Sulla and Marians from 83-82 BC. The owner of the hoard buried it in a terra-cotta pot, which served as a sort of piggy bank. The earliest coins in the stash dated to 157 or 156 BC, and the latest up to 83 or 82 BC, according to archaeological group’s release. During that time, 175 denarii would have been a soldier’s salary for about a year and a half, Alderighi said. Now, the treasure has a value of around 20,000 to 25,000 euros, she added. This morning, Israel withdrew from its first Lebanese village since the invasion in March, and the Lebanese Armed Forces have moved in to fill the void. The question is: Does this signal the beginning of a forced Israeli retreat, or the start of Lebanon’s long road to recovery? The answer is complicated. Israel can continue destroying Hezbollah infrastructure indefinitely, but it will pay massive international costs for doing so, with no way, short of a full invasion, to extinguish the group entirely. The framework agreement gives Israel legitimacy and time to uproot Hezbollah, but what Lebanon gives, it can also take away. If Beirut loses momentum and descends into state collapse, the entire agreement evaporates, and Hezbollah recovers out of Israel’s reach. This is the project President Joseph Aoun carries to Washington, where he meets Trump for the first time. Trump had no direct communication with Aoun during his first year in office—no meetings, calls, or letters. His sole contact has been in the form of inconsistent messaging on Lebanon’s fate: declaring after the June 26 agreement that “Iran is out, Hezbollah is out, and the road to peace between Israel and Lebanon is in,” then pivoting to pressure Netanyahu for unconditional withdrawal in the spirit of the Iran MOU, telling him, “They don’t want you there. That means Delta Force-style training units for elite LAF operations, drones and sensors for border security, organized international fundraising for reconstruction, and business initiatives to rebuild Lebanon’s shattered economy. He also needs assurance that Trump will not abandon him halfway through his push. Trump, for his part, will demand specifics: a detailed plan for Hezbollah disarmament, removal of military officers complicit with the group, suspension of anti-normalization laws blocking Israeli-Lebanese civilian contact, and a clear reaffirmation that peace with Israel is Aoun’s strategic objective. Custodial death of an 18 year old Irfan in Karachi . Irfan who belonged to Ahmedpur Sharqia had recently come to Karachi to live with his uncle after being affected by the disastrous flood. This is a case of murder under Section 302 PPC punishable under Section 9 of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act 2022 which mandates tries all guilty police officials including all aiders and abettors. The family after protesting for 5 days in Karachi have left for Ahmedpur Sharqia for Irfan's burial. They were not involved during the Post mortem of the body and have not been provided any report as yet. If there is a BJP-DMK alliance, I will support, campaign and vote for Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s party! I have been saying that BJP Tamilnadu is the only force that can challenge CM Vijay ideologically, for which the party has to start working hard and look for long-term dividends. But if the party acts as an extension, or even as part and parcel, of the Dravidian ecosystem by trying to piggyback on one of the Dravidian parties, what is the use of backing such a spent force that doesn’t have any vision or desire to bring about change? Let me make it clear that anti-DMK sentiments run through my blood, and if BJP, a party that I sympathize with, tries to have an alliance with DMK, then I will be compelled to disown BJP too. There can be some compromises in Parliament while passing bills such as the National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Act, 2019, where the DMK supported the Bill. But an electoral alliance between BJP & DMK will not sit well with a hardcore nationalist like myself. Why should I vote for the DMK and help in its empowerment? I’d rather support CM Vijay and his party and send MPs from Tamil Nadu to Parliament who I believe will work in the best interests of the state. I can afford to take this stand because, as a sympathizer of Narendra Modi, I am confident that he can still secure a simple majority, without depending on Tamil Nadu, as he demonstrated in 2014 and 2019. 2024 was an aberration because of several factors. At the same time, horrifying new videos and images emerged showing families of the victims gathered at forensic medicine centers, with hundreds of bodies laid on the ground. The scale of the killings has plunged Iranian society into deep shock and collective mourning. 3⃣ Following the release of these images, regime state media and officials implicitly acknowledged the occurrence of mass killings—without providing figures—while attempting to deflect responsibility. They claimed the bodies were “left behind by rioters” and denied the government’s role. Simultaneously, President Masoud Pezeshkian, the regime’s so-called reformist president, alleged that protesters had beheaded people and burned them alive. 4⃣ Field reports indicate large gatherings in Tehran neighborhoods including Punok, Shahrak-e Beheshti, Saadat Abad, Ashrafi Esfahani, and Pirouzi. Regime forces responded by attacking mourners with tear gas and paintball guns. Meanwhile, strikes by truck drivers and shopkeepers continued in Shiraz. In Tehran, protesters reportedly renamed a square from the name of Khomeini’s grandson to Pahlavi. 6⃣ Iran’s internet shutdown remains in place. According to NetBlocks, more than 72 hours after the blackout began, national connectivity is still at around 1% of normal levels. Due to the outage, information is emerging slowly and with delay, and very few reports are reaching the outside world from smaller cities. 7⃣ Coinciding with the fifteenth day of Iran’s national uprising, solidarity rallies by Iranians abroad continued in hundreds of cities across Europe, the United States, Canada, and elsewhere worldwide, in support of the Iranian people and Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. These demonstrations, however, received limited coverage in major Western media outlets. 8⃣ Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei once again instructed prosecutors to show “no leniency” toward protesters. He further stated that authorities should even pursue individuals who have taken ambiguous or non-committal positions on the protests. At the same time, the head of Iran’s police announced that the crackdown has entered a new phase, while regime media reported widespread arrests in multiple cities. 9⃣ Despite widespread public outrage over the killing of protesters, the regime declared three days of public mourning for several of its own slain security personnel.
