This post-activation, pre-primary chat is one of the most useful parts of my sessions as well, second only to the similar chat I have at the very end of training to reiterate the main points of the session and to confirm understanding, mostly through questions (no instruction)

Please for the love of god stop! They’re 6 years old, they don’t care about this! Get them on the ball, get them active, dibbling, small sided games, and engage them in game based learning! You’ve just completely wasted 4 minutes of training! 🤦🏻

@edysonwins I've been studying early childhood development for a couple of years now. A few minutes of self-reflection prior to the session increases the effectiveness of your training. It allows the students to absorb the "why" behind what they are learning far quicker.

I've posed a question: "Does OpenAI have a better pre-train in the back pocket or not?" and looks like the answer from Mark Chen is "Yes" - so we should expect a big response from OpenAI before the end of the year. Mark Chen, OpenAI Head of Research: - "In the last 2 years we've put so much resourcing into, into reasoning and one byproduct of that is you lose a little bit of muscle on pre training and post training." - "In the last six months, Jakub Pachocki and I have done a lot of work to build that muscle back up." - "With all the focus on RL, there's an alpha for us because we think there's so much room left in pre training." - "As a result of these efforts, we've been training much stronger models. And that also gives us a lot of confidence carrying into Gemini 3 and other releases coming this end of the year." So it does look like my assessment was broadly correct and they were neglecting pre-training quite a bit. The good news is that they've spent the last 6 months building that up and the big response shouldn't be too far away.

Look, I’m glad the golf media seems to have embraced the AK story today, as I hoped they would. But they’ve also done their best to ignore it and/or be cynical for 2 yrs. AK even said the same post-round - it’s real. I hope this is an inflection & self-reflection point for the media & we see some real change. My opinion is irrelevant TBH. I listen to the players & people material to this, like AK. Once their feelings change, my feelings about the media will change. It’s on no one else but you, the media. (You know who you are).

There are a lot of players that work year round on skill development but they don’t learn and/or be held accountable to the sacrifice, focus, energy, effort it takes to be a winning player for their team.

The 10-15 seconds in between pitches are the most important time of a baseball game. All ballplayers should be looking to win this time. The best way to do that is having a set pre-pitch routine that they execute every pitch. A pre-pitch routine is simply what players do on a consistent basis in-between pitches. Most importantly, it’s how they breathe, focus, visualize, and talk to themselves. This is what helps them take control, keep it simple, and compete with all they’ve got ONE pitch at a time.

Of course, there are likely many answers…but, perhaps, in a nutshell we can consider self-skills critical essentials. Self-awareness Self-control Self-reflection Self-development To know self…and to continue to know self… To take control of oneself so one can employ new approaches and tools To reflect in-action (during a session) and on-action (after a session) To create and engage in a plan of improvement (as a result of reflection and feedback) By engaging in self-skills your coaching toolbox can broaden and deepen…and your judgement and decision-making can become more thoughtful and more accurate…
