The first owner of Kyiv Post, Jed Sunden, congratulated the newspaper and its team on their 30th anniversary. He founded Kyiv Post in 1995, just days before his 25th birthday. In 2000, he was declared persona non grata in Ukraine by order of the SBU director — who later fled to Russia in February 2022. Jed remained publisher of Kyiv Post until selling the company in 2009. He is now the founder and director of the American Ukraine Political Action Committee ( which builds political and public support for Ukraine in the United States.

In 1995, during the Srebrenica genocide, 8,000 people were slaughtered while UN peacekeepers stood by. The next target was Zhepa, another UN "safe zone." 📍 The Situation:Zhepa was protected by only 79 Ukrainian peacekeepers. As Serbian forces approached, French and British NATO units nearby refused to intervene. The Ukrainians were ordered to surrender their weapons. ⚔️ The Choice:The Ukrainians, under Colonel Mykola Verkhoglyad, refused to surrender. Despite being vastly outnumbered, they held their ground and forced negotiations. While "great powers" expressed concern, 79 Ukrainians managed to evacuate over 5,000 Bosnian civilians under the barrels of Serbian tanks.
