Ukraine now has new ammunition designed to counter drones using standard rifles, Forbes reports. The 5.56mm NATO round breaks into five high-speed pellets on firing, creating a shotgun-like spread that’s effective against drones up to 50 meters away. Troops can quickly switch mags and engage without heavy weapons.

Facts About Ukraine’s Position in the War 🇺🇦 1. Ukraine continues to defend over 1,000 km of front lines against Russian forces, focusing recently on holding key areas like Chasiv Yar and Kharkiv region. 2. Heavily reliant on Western military aid—tanks, air defenses, drones, and now F-16 jets expected by late 2025. 3. Despite major losses, Ukraine’s forces have adapted with small drone strikes and long-range missile hits deep into Russian territory. 4. The economy has shrunk by about a third since 2022, yet Kyiv maintains core infrastructure and government functions with international loans. 5. Political unity remains high, though concerns grow about manpower shortages and delayed Western weapons deliveries.

"We are learning from Ukraine every day." – U.S. Secretary of Defense when asked whether American bases are protected against attacks similar to the SBU’s Operation Spiderweb. So, what can NATO learn from Ukraine when it comes to the use of and defense against drones? 🔳 Counter-drone defense According to Ukrainian military officials, no NATO army is currently prepared to withstand a mass drone assault. 🔳 Camouflaging weapons ▪️ Over years of war, Ukrainian Defenders have mastered concealing weapons near the front lines under tree cover and camouflage netting. ▪️ Ukraine’s military has also developed systems for jamming Russian signals and tracking enemy drones. ▪️ NATO is considering using drones as tools for early warning and border deterrence. ▪️ NATO countries bordering Russia have initiated the creation of a Baltic Drone Wall — a network of drones, sensors, jamming systems, and surveillance equipment. 🔳 Drone production ▪️ Ukraine has significantly ramped up its capabilities and plans to produce 5 million drones in 2025. ▪️ Within NATO, Germany is working closely with Ukraine on drone development. ▪️ The EU has also announced plans to strengthen its member states’ capacity to manufacture drones. 🔳 Frontline testing Drone prototypes in Ukraine are immediately sent into combat and tested against Russian capabilities. The data gathered is then directly used to refine drone manufacturing. 🔳 Drone pilot training ▪️ This year, NATO conducted extended simulation-based drone exercises. ▪️ NATO also has a training center in Poland to study and apply Ukrainian experience. ▪️ Denmark has sent its military personnel to Ukraine to learn drone warfare tactics firsthand. 📹: DW

‼️‼️🇺🇦 BIG | Ukraine has fielded its first domestically developed jet-powered drone interceptor, Alexa Spatium, giving its air-defense network a new weapon specifically designed to hunt the faster Russian drones that are increasingly challenging traditional interception methods. Developed by Ukrainian engineers, Alexa Spatium is a compact high-speed UAV built to intercept enemy drones, including Shahed-family systems. Measuring roughly 1.5 by 1.7 meters, it can be transported by pickup and launched from a mobile catapult within minutes. Its lightweight composite construction is designed for aggressive maneuvering, while the platform can carry several types of warheads and uses a powerful turbojet engine to operate at higher speeds and altitudes than conventional propeller-driven interceptors. Alexa Spatium arrives at exactly the moment Ukraine needs this class of system most. Russia is increasingly using faster jet-powered Geran variants and spreading attacks across longer time windows, forcing Kyiv to adapt beyond machine-gun teams and slower interceptor drones. Ukraine’s answer is beginning to take shape as a layered, cheaper and more scalable counter-drone architecture. If systems like Alexa Spatium can be produced in large numbers, they could help preserve scarce surface-to-air missiles for the most dangerous threats while making Russia’s expanding drone campaign far more expensive and less effective.
