Umpire disallows two instant challenges

too prideful to show the world that they’re wrong with the missed call.

I guess this is a new tactic for umpires, just don't allow the challenge. This bum should be fired.

If the league is going to require immediate challenges from catchers, they need to require the umps to audibly call a ball. All these supposed late challenges are catchers waiting for a strike call that never comes.

He's clearly mad because ABS has made him look bad but not allowing challenges that are clearly in time only serves to make him look worse. There needs to be repercussions for this.

Umps that go on power trips like this are the exact reason ABS is a thing and robots will soon take their jobs lmao

It's stupid shit like this where catchers will "accidentally" miss catching that 95mph heater directly over his head.

What's the protocol on this? How can an umpire be held accountable if this becomes a pattern?

That umpire should be disciplined by MLB. The first example, maybe a time limit thing. The second one, it is obvious the call was a tick delayed, the catcher seemingly caught off balance by that call, then he signaled for the ABS.

I always love when an ump is bad at their job and then when a player or manager points out that they are bad at their job, they get run.

Man they need to make ABS fully automated for 2027 this is unacceptable

Ump didn’t do anything wrong. You have to challenge immediately after the call not 5 seconds later

Both were inside or around 2 seconds which is what the MLB has given. Umpire was wrong for not taking the challenge but had the calls right.

Neither of those were “instant”
