Underground gameplay in my physics simulation game. Digging will be one of the main parts of the game. Also fighting monsters.

Hey I am curious how you do your texturing, do you have settled matter become a part of some other texture and then just have an image overlay which corresponds to material? Or some other magic

Static ground is rendered with texture. Upon destruction, it becomes dynamic particles, which only have 1 color per particle, and it's pre defined per material type (soil is brown, rock is gray, and so on). Colors from particles gathered in a texture, that is rendered in one draw call.

Very nice, thanks for reply. I’m building cellular automata using rgba8unorm texture to hold identity for the pixels. One of the slots is color, this give 255 bytes of precision. Was able to store 4 colors in the g channel. Any reason for there only being one color per material?

One color is to save performance on rendering. I might later make the particles keep a few pixels of the original texture.

oh please make the ennemies out of particoes so you can pulverise them into dust

@fullchomp Yep, it's planned.

You could make an awesome game like Microsurgeon with that!

feels like worms, but jelly, jelly worms

Hear me out: Liero 2

Any thoughts of adding automation to remove the spoil and process ores?

Oh, this kind of gameplay, yeah, I would gladly research into. Not in terms how to do this, rather if the amount of work is doable, and if I 'll find how exactly it should work to be a fun replayable game.

I thinking you dig to get ores or minerals for upgrades, or to sell for currency to purchase machinery or upgrades. The noise or smell from the machinery could attract monsters to attack your mines and you put turrets to defend it.

Yep. It's the most attractive game idea for me amongst others in the list. Because it's replayable and deep, and should be fun to play. Though, it might be the most sophisticated for implementation.

what happened to the license negotiations for Patrick Star Simulator

I'll just go with Potrick

i love the hypermurdernoodle

these game mechanics seem spicy 🌶️ yet undercooked 🪱

Oh yeahhhh. Gives me Red Faction 'this shotgun is your key" vibes
