ICE and CBP officers are some of the most dedicated men and women in law enforcement in the U.S. They deserve the support of state and local officials — not harassment for keeping our communities safe. What happened in Minnesota is a tragedy but we should be careful to rush to judgment. There should be a detailed investigation. I’m confident that there will be and that there will be answers.

A preliminary report to Congress from Customs and Border Protection obtained by CBS News says two CBP agents opened fire during the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti. The report says that while Pretti was on the ground, a Border Patrol agent repeatedly yelled, “He’s got a gun,” but it makes no mention of Pretti reaching for a firearm in his waistband. Matt Gutman reports.
