American shows that Delta Airlines has released new pricing tiers and has taken price gouging to a whole new level There are now multiple ticket tiers, and each ticket tier has different tiers The price goes up depending if you want to earn miles, have overhead space, board in different groups, be refundable, change seat and more This is insanity

No longer a ‘conspiracy theory’ Online retailers are accessing your data and then adjusting prices for items based on that data Airlines are being caught adjusting prices based on data too “This holiday season, you and your neighbor could be shopping for the exact same item and pay different prices — surveillance pricing is and how your personal data plays a role. You may be shopping for gifts from the comfort of your couch, but stores can still see who you are. Most of these companies are charging you a different price based on some data they have about you. It could be your location, it could be your proximity to the store, it could be your shopping history, knowing that you bought a product previously and are willing pay for it again.” “Consumer watchdog president Jamie Court says surveillance pricing is nearly impossible to avoid — Court says his organization has evidence all the major retailers use personal algorithms to nudge a price up or down, targeting data from your Amazon cart, Uber rides, or even the brand of laptop you're using to shop” “For those traveling for the holidays. Airlines will charge you a different price depending upon how many times you go to the website. “Currently, there is no federal regulation for companies that use surveillance pricing. We reached out to the FTC”

I just went down this rabbit hole, and it's so fascinating. So apparently, airlines have been selling your data to competitors for years. Strange right? I know, hear me out... It's called dynamic pricing. Dynamic pricing is when a company charges you a price calculated specifically for you, based on what they know about you, rather than a fixed price everyone sees. Nobody called it surveillance. The mainstream take on dynamic pricing is that it's sinister and new. Corporations secretly watching, jacking up prices, exploiting desperation. That anger is mostly right. Dynamic pricing isn't a bug that crept into capitalism. It's the entire architecture of how information asymmetry becomes profit. Airlines have always charged different people different prices for the same seat. Hotels. Insurance companies. Actuarial profiling predates the internet. What changed isn't the behavior. It's the resolution. Your battery at 8% telling Uber you're stranded is a higher-resolution version of the taxi driver who saw you running in the rain and didn't turn the meter off. The new part is the precision. They know you searched the same flight six times. They know you're on a Mac. They know your zip code and how long you've been sitting on the page. Old dynamic pricing responded to demand. Surveillance pricing responds to you. The counterargument from the market side is real. Personalization can mean discounts. But companies optimizing for revenue will use behavioral data to find the ceiling, not the floor. What are your thoughts? Is this fair or pure greed from big corp? That's a wrap. Li is a gallery for the greatest minds in economics, psychology, and history. Follow if that interests you. We are ONE genius away. -- P.S. I'm building a course on how the world actually works. Not the surface story, but the incentive layer underneath it. Who funds what. Who benefits from what you believe? Why the official explanation is rarely the complete one. Comment "yes" if you're interested in something like this. Waitlist opens soon.

No longer a conspiracy theory Instacart has been caught using Dynamic Pricing They are accessing personal data of users and then adjusting prices based on that data. If someone can afford to pay more for items, the prices increase “You may have heard of dynamic pricing. Well now Instacart is accused of using this controversial practice to charge consumers wildly inconsistent prices on the same products. — This is infuriating. Food delivery service Instacart is being accused of charging different prices to different customers on the same grocery items without them knowing. Groundwork, it's a consumer advocacy group, Instacart says Instacart's pricing algorithm could lead to shoppers paying an extra $1,200 on groceries annually. Nearly three-quarters of grocery items it surveyed were sold at different price points. Instacart said the price differences were tests conducted by some retailers to learn what matters most to consumers. It denied using shoppers' personal information to fuel dynamic or customized pricing.”

Delta Airlines to begin using artificial intelligence algorithms to scrape your emails and more to determine the maximum amount you’re willing to spend on tickets, then adjust your price Example: If you have a death in the family, they’ll know it’s urgent and the price will go up ‘Delta says it's "fully reengineering how we price" airfare - leaning into Al algorithms that set the maximum price you're willing to spend, based on surveillance technology. About 3% of Delta's domestic ticket prices are now determined by artificial intelligence - and Delta plans to raise that to 20% by the end of the year.’ - More Perfect Union “Delta Airlines just announced on their earnings call that they're going to start using some of these algorithms to price some of their tickets. And imagine a world in which you have a death in the family, you have to go home for a funeral. And they know that through scraping your email, that is, you know, announcing when the service is going to be. They know you're in a tight spot, and so you're going to be charged much more because of that. There's so much data collected about individual people by data brokers, by this whole shadowy ecosystem that's just tracking you through your phone, through your browsing history. — There is a serious worry that companies will be able to do this.” Imagine how many other businesses are going to start doing the same thing

🚨 New digital pricing has come to American grocery stores He says that he’s seen the pricing change based on time of day and how many items are left, “They'll fluctuate based off of demand” - If it’s 6pm, the price goes up - Once the inventory on these items become low, the prices will start to shoot up to $1.20 “They're gonna start incorporating all these all over. Yeah, so it's pretty crazy. I'll come back later on in the day and you'll see this go up and down in price. You'll see it go as low as like 89 cents, which is pretty crazy” Welcome to dystopia

🚨 MICHAEL’S STORES JUST QUIETLY REMOVED ALL PRICE TAGS - SHOPPERS CALL IT “DIABOLICAL DYNAMIC PRICING” A woman walked into Michael’s and realized NOTHING in the store has a price on it anymore. No stickers, no tags, no scanners, not even the app will tell you. Workers admitted: “Yeah… I don’t know why they’re doing that." Customers now only find out the price AFTER they get to the register. People are saying this is the beginning of full-blown dynamic pricing, where the store changes the price based on WHO you are and WHEN you shop. Shoppers are furious, saying they’re walking out empty-handed because they refuse to play “price roulette” at the checkout. Is this the future of shopping… or a straight-up scam being tested on Americans?

This woman shares her experience with Walmart’s digital price tags and how they appear to be using something called dynamic pricing. Dynamic pricing is when companies adjust prices in real time based on demand or other factors. She found a pair of shoes marked down to just $3 on clearance. When she scanned the tag in the shoe aisle, it showed $3. But by the time she reached the register, the same shoes scanned for nearly $19. When she went back with a manager to check, the price seemed to change depending on where she was standing in the store. It’s raising some questions about how transparent this kind of pricing really is — especially for people trying to stick to a budget. Have you ever had a price change on you while shopping, either in-store or online?

“Surge Pricing” in American grocery stores has arrived Kroger partnered with Microsoft to introduce AI-powered technologies for personalized pricing “Kroger just rolled out surge pricing using facial recognition technology: - Determine the maximum price of goods customers are willing to pay - Kroger has the ability to change the prices of their products depending on the facial image of the person buying them - Depending on the image of the person buying the product, they can access our information and dictate that price - Can also use our image to determine how often we buy certain products and increase the price of that product - Dynamic pricing in grocery stores could resemble the airline industry's ticket pricing strategies “This could lead to discriminatory practices using AI as a scapegoat to charge people of different races, different socioeconomic status, different family sizes, and different dietary restrictions different prices for the same products that they are buying” (Kroger, the largest grocery chain in the U.S., denied claims that ESLs would be used for surge pricing, insisting its pricing strategy aims to lower costs for consumers. "To be clear, Kroger does not and has never engaged in 'surge pricing.' Any test of electronic shelf tags is designed to lower prices for more customers where it matters most”) … Yeah right

There is a viral social media movement to buy Spirit Airlines This is a movement to nationalize Spirit Airlines and make it owned by the people The movement has grown so large it’s crashed the donation website after instantly taking over $88 million dollars “I had a genius idea. Spirit Airlines just went bankrupt, right. I'm the guy that flew Spirit Airlines for 24 hours straight. There's more than 250 million individuals over the age of 18 in the United States. Now, if we took only 20% of them and paid basically the average fare of a Spirit Airlines flight, which is somewhere around $30 to $40, we could buy Spirit Airlines. This is a genius idea. We nationalize Spirit Airlines owned by the people. — Let's buy an airline” It’s LetsBuySpirit. com (with it a space) This is NOT an endorsement of any kind, this is reporting on what’s happening. I have no made any donations or have not been involved with this in any way

Surveillance Pricing is happening in America More complaints about American’s data being collected and then charging them different prices based on that data One American saw a $230 price increase on her JetBlue airline ticket the next day after making a social media post saying “I love JetBlue” That data was collected and the price skyrocketed “The airline responded saying, try clearing your cash and cookies, or booking with an incognito window. Critics were quick to claim JetBlue was using what's known as surveillance pricing — Many implied that JetBlue's Tweet was telling the traveler he could get a lower price if he erased the data JetBlue had received about him through his online searches.” “Every day our phones and devices collect massive amounts of personal data on us, and now businesses may be using this trove of personal information to charge each of us a different price for the exact same product or service — experts say surveillance pricing is still being used by ride share apps, major grocery retailers, and even pharmacies” This isn’t a conspiracy theory, this is actually happening The problem is so prevalent that multiple states are considering banning the practice

Prices to go to a movie in America are out of control Just since 2016, national movie prices have increased 60-85%+ on average In 2016 a ticket was $8.65. Today that price is $29.48 for premium formats and $16 for a basic ticket depending on location (I show proof) Some of the theaters like this are very outdated, others are new but the price is the same Just to see Toy Story in IMAX at AMC in California you’re looking at $29.48 per adult ticket and $26.98 for a child ticket A couple could spent $120 bucks just on tickets to take their 2 kids… it’s insane

🚨 UNITED AIRLINES LEFT A DISABLED WOMAN ALONE ON THE JET BRIDGE AFTER THE PLANE CLOSED — THEN SHE REALIZED NO ONE WAS COMING A disabled woman says she was left stranded alone on a United Airlines jet bridge after the plane closed with nowhere to sit and no wheelchair waiting for her. She turns on her camera visibly shaken, saying she was stuck on the jet bridge with no way to get herself out and could only wait, hoping somebody would eventually come help. Her warning to other disabled travelers: make absolutely sure your wheelchair assistance is attached to your reservation all the way through your trip. Then she calls out United directly: “Do better, United. Come on.” Who’s in the wrong here... United Airlines or the passenger?

American took her daughter to urgent care, before going she saw their cash price was $150 At urgent care they took her insurance information and quoted her more, so she asked for the cash price. They denied the cash price because she has insurance and forced her to pay the higher price She says she “pays an arm and a leg” for her insurance every month, and it’s more expensive to use . They don’t even give you the option of the cash price if you have insurance, you just have to pay the higher price This is a scam, Congress MUST do something about this. How many people need to speak up before our representatives actually do something

🚨 AMERICANS ARE DONE WITH AIRLINES — AND THEY’RE FINALLY SHOWING HOW THE SCREWING STARTS AT THE AIRPORT You get charged before you even reach the gate. $9 for a luggage cart. In other countries those things are free. In the U.S. you pay just to roll your own bags across the terminal. Then comes the ticket. Airlines are using surveillance pricing software that changes the fare based on what they know about you. One example being passed around: JetBlue allegedly jacked a fare by $230 in a day after the system flagged a traveler flying to a funeral. That’s not a sale. That’s charging extra because you’re desperate. Even after they overcharge you, the “flight” is a joke. One basic economy ticket at $631 included no carry-on, a $100 first checked bag, no refunds, last to board, and then more money just to pick a seat. So the question people are screaming now is simple. If the cart costs $9, the bag costs $100, and the seat costs extra… what the hell is the $631 even for?

We know when you tune into a game, the player you’re going to see like I’m tuning in to this game to see this matchup, right? This is who sells the tickets. When you get your ticket stub, right? Think about it now. When you get your ticket stub and then have two people on it, one from one team, another from how many people’s on this list that don’t need to be on that ticket is what I’m trying to say. Some of these names when they come to town is the games you get for free. Like they throw it in the package. It’s like I’m going to see Kendrick Lamar and the Blazers. You have to take that Blazers game to get this” (Via Gilbert Arenas)
