Unloading fertilizer from a ships hold.

Absolutely not. If this were real, the white crane in the back would be one of the largest known to man

That's perspective. That's actually a shipboard crane.

why are they using a toy excavator

Zero chance this is actually true.

Why not?

The size of scale is astounding! To me, when the digger was first placed in the hold, it looked like a toy! Apologies if ‘digger’ is the incorrect term. I’m just a lowly social worker lol. It must take many hours to empty that one hold and that’s just one of them!

Im sure a vacuumed system would be better.

Depends if your cargo has an allergic reaction to the static electricity created in your vacuum system

Why you bring such inconvenient truths into this.

It would be quicker if they didn’t use tiny Lego models.

I know you want to avoid a vacuum but I'm still surprised some kind of auger or bucket elevator like a grain leg can't be lowered in there. That scoop is also absolutely huge and the scale is hard to fathom. Just surprised this is how its done

12,500 tons was the biggest ship I worked on. No JCB.! The crane could reach to every part of the hatch, and we would feed the crane with the little it couldn't get. We got paid £1 extra for cleaning the hatches really for the next cargo 👍

Gotta be a more efficient way

LOL! The excavator looks insanely cute... 😆

I bet someone don realize these are toys

Who else thinks the excavator is not doing any real work?

Thx

No boat is this big btw, this is from something on land, not in a boat

1. It's a ship, not a boat. 2. This is a ship. An ultra large bulk carrier can carry 350,000 tons of cargo.

Me when I lie and only show the inside of the carrying hold, nice try bud

Sure dude... and your maritime experience?

Maritime experience yet uses a fuckass AI generated pfp to sound smart lol, I know your ass lying behind that screen

Back in the 90’s a company shipped 10,000 tons of fertilizer to Minnesota by ship, but it was all in bags for easy off loading and storage on the dock, spend the entire summer guarding it, 6 12 hour shifts a week

Lovely screen saver-thx🙏

This looks inefficient and slow. Can it be pumped out like cement?

Depending on cargo, you don't want to create static electricity. Vacuuming creates static electricity

@GrainPirateDan Always wondered how this was done. Still how do they get ever last bit out once the 360 has done what it can?

Literally thought it was a toy

fake

Who did the full it up in the first place What type of fertilizer is that

Your kid having fun 😅

this is the big one. notice the "buggy" inside is a little one

People talking about how you cant vacuum because of static, just ignoring a diesel excavator playing in it

@JournalistCisca They excavator sitting in the fertilizer is combusting fuel and creating electricity for the cabin...

@JournalistCisca But your oxygen content and dust particles are not between explosion limits

my cat would still somehow fling it out of the box

They look like tonka toys haha ships so big the perspective messes with my brain.

@LechonJamez why they at spaceport departure building

there is surely a better way

Ooit eens bij een bedrijf geweest welke dit soort grijpers maakt. Stond er eentje van 65m3. Gigantisch apparaat.

why not just use some kind of large vacuum/conveyer belt system, it would be faster/cheaper??

Fake shit this is how it looks in real life. some of them are twice the size but you get the scale...

That's a photo of a small coaster. The cargo capacity of an VLBC is about 15 to 20 times that

And I've sailed on those ships, and putting an excavator or bulldozer in a hold is standard practice.

But i'm guessing you have a maritime background?
