While learning Unreal Engine 5, I decided to port over most of Hyperion to it to see if I could potentially move my workflows over to UE5. Although it worked decently well, it didn't work well enough to allow me to change over entirely. Hyperion is simply too complex of an asset for real-time workflows (or at least is limited due to my knowledge of said workflows). 131 4K-8K UDIMs at over 8 channels and a solid amount of shaders with layering being the biggest bottleneck. I couldn't even match the shading setup to what I have in RenderMan, UE gave me a warning that the material was too complex. I was using the new Substrate materials, which mimic RenderMan LAMA shaders. The render below is using the pathtracer. As you can see there are some random flickering parts which I couldn't fix during my tests. This render of course doesn't have any displacement either (which Hyperion heavily relies on). I think Unreal Engine has a very bright future, but it is still limited by todays hardware technology for high end VFX work. Maybe in a few years I will give it another try when hardware improves and the engine becomes a bit more versatile in feature-set.

We recommend using it on xhigh for best results. - Incredibly good writer. Opus 4.8 scored a 79.6 on our writing benchmark—measuring models on real-world writing tasks we do all of the time like essay writing, promo email writing, and more. It beats GPT-5.5 by 6 points. It produces well-written prose with fewer "AI-isms". It's also very good at writing in your voice given the right context. HOWEVER: Writing performance also varied with reasoning levels. My home was a magical place. Only ashes remain. The outpouring of support from community has been monumental and every message, donation, gesture has truly been food for me these last few days. We’ve got a long road ahead of us. We evacuated with only the clothes on our backs so we truly have nothing left. My art, my jewelry, my clothing, my books, my photos - everything curated and collected in my material in my life is now gone, including the home we had poured everything into to buy in the first place. We are underinsured, it will be a battle. Sobering. Hard. Life-Changing. But… I want everyone to remember its beauty and optimism, the joy the disco cabin brought me and so many others who gathered here. At this exact time last year - Punks came together at my home as the sunset kissed the ocean in a sky of pink, sweet tunes drifting over us with tacos in hand. And perhaps there is also something poetic in this total loss, a silver lining I will find one day? This moment was framed to me as the beginning of a new “hero’s journey” and being a lover of Joseph Campbell - and that concept feels true. 🐦‍🔥 “We're in a freefall into future. We don't know where we're going. Things are changing so fast, and always when you're going through a long tunnel, anxiety comes along. And all you have to do to transform your hell into a paradise is to turn your fall into a voluntary act. It got a LOT of feedback, mostly from people telling the creator what a terrible thing he did and how AI assisted workflows can never be used for anything good or meaningful and most of all that it can never be used for art. That's such nonsense. Of course it can. If it's wielded by artists and great storytellers, great things will come of it. If you hand a violin to someone on the street they'll be able to make it make sounds.. if you hand it to a talented musician it becomes a conveyer of thoughts, emotion and art. Here's a small scene from Mononoke that I did an AI take on.. it's far from perfect and to animate this properly would require much more work. The AI workflows we have today are lacking so many control elements. But to think those things won't come.. come on. Of course they will. But most importantly, in a way where they don't overtake the art completely, but instead acts like an "amplifier" of the artists using the tools. This technology will be in most of our creative tools in the very near future with full controllability. Oh and I never liked the idea of turning old disney classics into live-action films, or doing the same with the beautiful work of Studio Ghibli. Act MP Mark Cameron has this morning announced he’s leaving parliament, sadly as he is too ill to continue. Act have however announced new candidates - Manu Singh for Manurewa who is a real estate agent who’s branch only has Indian sales reps. Also they are running Malkiat Singh for Papakura (who campaigns in a pink turban) a licensed immigration agent who only last year lobbied Erica Stanford to “Remove all caps for parent resident visa’s” arguing that limiting immigrants (usually elderly) parents is ‘ridiculous’ and holding back ‘progress’ An MBIE paper acknowledging Singh’s petition says : [The petitioner’s reason is stated as]: “I believe the Parent Resident visa category is cruel and makes people rely on luck instead of motivating them to focus on eligibility, hard-work, and entrepreneurship, which would ultimately lead to progress for all New Zealanders. In May 2024, the Immigration New Zealand website shows a total of 9,616 EOIs. With the current limit of 500 per year for these EOIs, it could take years to be selected. I believe this is ridiculous.” MBIE noted -“The petitioner is a licensed immigration adviser.” One of Nationals Indian candidates (Ghouse Maneed) also lobbied the govt to allow in all Indians back into NZ who have an expired work or student visa. You don’t realize how much of yourself you put into a program until it’s time to leave. When I joined Tarpon, there really wasn’t much in place. I had to supplement the lack of equipment with my own gear. Even while taking my personal equipment with me now, I was still able to donate over 40 high-end wooden lockers, around 40 locker room and field chairs, more than 25 metal lockers, a new batting cage net, dugout fans, new bullpen lights, a new front toss protective screen, lounge couches for the locker room, extra protective screens, uniforms, gear—and much more. The baseball, basketball and girls volleyball and girls basketball all got locker rooms and upgraded equipment because of my efforts. It’s safe to say I left my mark on the program. The next person stepping in will find much more than I did when I started. I wish them all the best. I’ll be honest—I wasn’t sure if the staff would let me retrieve my equipment, and there was a bit of back and forth. But in the end, it worked out, and I appreciate that. After everything I put in and sacrificed for the program, it meant a lot to be able to get my things. Thank you.
