The mission aims to provide logistical support to the Turkish Task Force Command in Somalia and to support the Çağrı Bey drilling vessel, which will conduct research activities within the maritime jurisdiction areas of the Federal Republic of Somalia. According to the ministry, the naval units will conduct a port visit to Djibouti on February 6–7 and are scheduled to arrive in Somalia on February 11.

A Turkish vessel carrying APCs and other military equipment reportedly suffered a systems’ failure off the coast of Somalia’s Puntland state. Maritime police from Puntland boarded the vessel and recorded purported video clips of the military vehicles. A security source says there are discussions about possibly towing the vessel to a port along the coastline. The source said they believe the ship’s destination was Mogadishu where Turkey runs a military training facility. Turkey also recently increased its military presence in Somalia. That’s nearly half of Somalia’s maritime income going to a foreign country.
