In Unreal Engine 5.8, you can now easily set a node to development only or disabled via the right click menu. This a nice quality of life feature to enable by default, as it was previous hidden on an unassigned shortcut or experimental checkbox

Robots that act like slime! 🫟 Cornell University engineers developed a robotic collective that behaves less like a machine and more like a material that flows, reshapes, and adapts without centralized control. It consists of dozens of small robots with limited individual mobility that exhibit coordinated motion when entangled. The system resembles soft matter, continuously deforming and reorganizing as it moves, driven by mechanical intelligence. Each robotic module measures 200mm long and 20mm wide, containing a small motor that oscillates between "I" and "U" shapes. These oscillations generate forces against the ground, allowing modules to inch forward and jostle together. On their own, modules move slowly and inefficiently. When they entangle into chains, they self-organize into shifting configurations that prove resilient in challenging environments. On incline surfaces, chains moved more reliably than individuals. In obstacle fields, the collective behaved like a flowing material, connections formed to maintain cohesion, then broke apart to prevent jamming. The system stays functional even when modules fail. Isolated modules emit an audible distress signal, prompting nearby modules to slow down so the straggler can reconnect. No centralized sensing or control, each module infers when it has lost contact by how much it's being jostled. Read more here: ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news →

Bored Ape Yacht Club is going to Trillions because it self-selects for Apes who don’t care about money or material things. These apes are the most powerful people in the world. Because you can’t buy them. These apes are driven by things far greater than money - Things like Meaning, Purpose, Loyalty and Legacy. This is exactly the type of people who will Persist Forever.

It’s easier to find a liar than a thief 👉 They told the world Gaza was an “open-air prison.” It turns out that they miss their “prison” now, and we’ve learned that many of them lived far better than the average person in Europe or the U.S. 👉 All paid with YOUR tax money.

I've uncovered a bit more about FSD V14's behavior in the snow. FSD has an invisible & binary "Snow Mode" where it shifts in and out of a different profile upon detection of snow-covered roads. Snow Mode is either ON or OFF. It does not appear to be a gradient based on condition severity. Example: In the video below, you can see tiny bits of snow drifting across the highway surface. Before this snow appeared, FSD drove normally (at the speed limit or above). When it saw this snow, it instantly slowed to 10-15mph under the speed limit. Then, when the snow cleared, it sped back up. It did this multiple times over a 10 mile drive: >Drive Normally >Detect Snow >Enter Snow Mode >Slow Down >Snow is gone >Exit Snow Mode >Drive Normally In this particular instance driving between various conditions, Snow Mode was unnecessary for this type of snow drifting. Pressing the accelerator or increasing the speed profile does NOT override Snow Mode. Elon said last year they may need to create different versions of FSD for different regions, driving types, and weather (Deep snow vs. Manhattan, etc). This may be our first look at that separated version of FSD that is activated under a certain condition!

🚨🇨🇳 U.S. PACIFIC NIGHTMARE: CHINA UNVEILS GPS-FREE NUCLEAR SUB NAVIGATION China is on the verge of flipping undersea warfare. Researchers at Xinjiang Institute of Physics and Chemistry just cracked a thorium-229 nuclear clock that lets nuclear submarines navigate indefinitely without surfacing for GPS or satellite fixes. 🔸 This technology eliminates the need for submarines to periodically surface or raise masts for satellite updates, removing their most vulnerable detection window. 🔸 Taiwan flashpoint impact: Jin-class SSBNs and future Type 096 ballistic missile submarines can now conduct extended hidden patrols in the South China Sea and western Pacific while retaining guaranteed nuclear counterstrike capability. 🔸 Hunter-killer advantage: Type 093 nuclear attack subs gain far greater operational freedom to target US carrier strike groups and allied maritime supply lines. 🔸 Precision strike boost: Significantly improves accuracy of China’s sea-launched cruise and hypersonic missiles even in total GPS-denied environments. Do you think the U.S. can catch up with Chinese navigation tools?

🌟 New mini feature today on Photo AI It now auto recognizes your model's attributes when you upload photos of yourself Like gender, age, ethnicity, eye color, etc This uses xAI's Grok because it's the least restricted and other models don't let you do any identity type stuff due to safety (???) This saves new users a few more seconds when creating new models: training a model takes only about 30 seconds now, and then it also auto generates free sample pics for you in about 5-10 seconds So in under a minute of signing up and uploading a few selfies you got your first AI photo shoot pics I learnt the faster I get new users to the classic "WOW" moment the happier they get and the less churn I get 😊

🚨🇷🇺 ZELENSKY IN PANIC: Russia's New Defense System Makes NATO Drone Swarms Obsolete Rostec just dropped the ZAK-30 “Citadel” — Russia’s latest anti-drone system designed to shred NATO UAV tactics in real time. 🔸 The ZAK-30 Citadel packs a 30mm cannon that fires intelligent smart shells which automatically calculate the optimal detonation point based on the drone’s exact flight path, delivering lethal precision while dramatically conserving ammunition. 🔸 Each combat module carries a full 300-round load and can destroy aircraft-type drones at oblique ranges up to 1,000 meters and small multicopters at 800 meters, supported by integrated surveillance radar plus optical-electronic tracking. 🔸 The entire system operates with a remote command post positioned safely up to 1 km away from the firing modules and requires only 5 crew members for continuous 24/7 performance. 🔸 Already battle-proven and deployed in the special military operation zone, the Citadel has confirmed its high effectiveness against real-world Western-supplied drone attacks. Do you think NATO can catch up to Russian anti-drone technology?

So Mafia: The Old Country DLSS Frame Generation is very broken in HDR! See how the image warps in the first part of the video? The second part is with the fix and looks great. This is because UE erroneously flagged all game pixels as UI, hence Frame Gen treated them as such, and applied a different type of interpolation on them. Luckily, we fixed this years ago through a safe 3 lines PR from Ersh: However, it was only merged in UE 5.5. Mafia 4 is 5.4. I would have hoped they backported it after the new update from yesterday, given it also included updates to DLSS, but alas it's still broken 😿. If you know any of the developers, please ping them, otherwise the official version will be broken forever (I used RenoDX to fix it). This is why, I strongly believe Epic should have some kind of alert system for developers on older versions, to inform them of major fixes that might affect their games. Devs unfortunately don't have time to skim through 3000 commits in the UE main branch. Mafia 2K 2KSupport

Stateless History Node is almost like a regular Ethereum node, but it doesn't store state and it doesn't have EVM execution. It's used only for syncing events and thus - is faster and gives you FREE INDEXING. You don't have to pay 6 figures for RPC anymore! Just spin up a Stateless History Node, plug rindexer or Ponder there, and enjoy free (AND FAST!!) indexing! This node is syncing >1000 blocks per second at my local pc (less than 6hrs for the whole Ethereum), and it should use less than 200GB - which means you can host it on a MacMini, Hetzner or whatever. You can futhermore filter that by using block ranges or bloom filters, etc - I haven't developed this yet. What you see is a proof of concept. It works via native devp2p 'eth' protocol, but with EIP4444 and The Prune we would have to also support era1 archives and Portal Network. But so far it works - there are plenty of peers serving historical receipts, and they serve them FAST! If you run Stateless History Node you can also serve the blocks and receipts - so that could help to preserve archival data too. For now there is no data validation yet (and even no data storage - that's a very early PoC), but we can verify validity of chain by simultaneously running a lightweight CL node (or not lightweight if you're extremely paranoid). And then support verifying the hashes of receipts and blocks with their parents, maintaining full integrity and zero trust. It's also written in rust, btw. So, I guess, at least for Ethereum Mainnet the era of RPC's pumping moneybags is over - there's finally a local, trustless and free indexing alternative available. Too sad this won't work for Optimism / Base , cause despite introducing P2P after Bedrock - they haven't enabled receipts transfer in the protocol (or at least I couldn't find one). Arbitrum is even sadder - I don't believe there is a P2P layer at all - you just have to run your own node, hold state and execute blocks to get events. There is hope - Paradigm recently released Ress - stateless execution, but it requires nodes to support Witness preparation & exchange - but this could work for L2s - cause the main blocker for local RPCs rn is huge state (VPS with TB storage cost a lot), and the second blocker is EVM forks makes it hard to hold a node - it needs to be maintained, upgraded, etc. Ress at least solves the state part. But anyways, I will try to continue working on this and release some MVP version with RPC endpoint and data storage soon - follow the updates!

a lot of visual identities fall apart the moment you remove the logo. so here’s friendly advice I wish someone drilled into me earlier: run every visual identity through the Three-Post Test. What is it? Design three social media posts in the new visual identity. (btw, you can now easily design and export social media assets directly in Framer) Or, design three posters. (a tip that Jessica Strelioff’s also recently shared!) Then, the important step: remove the logo. Now, look at them like a stranger would. If you’re trying to get out of junior design mode — ask yourself: 1. without the logo, do these three posts still obviously belong together? Follow up with: 2. can I easily point to repeating rules (layout, type behavior, spacing, color logic, ...)? 3. could another designer easily continue this system without me in the room? If you answer 1. no 2. nope 3. uhmmm, not sure then you’re in trouble. If the logo disappears and the connection goes with it, that’s your signal: you don’t have a visual system yet, just three nice visual pieces. maybe a very nice logo, too. So, run this test early, save yourself time later.

Facial reconstruction of a 3,800-year-old man from Sapalli Tepe, Uzbekistan The Bronze Age settlement of Sapalli Tepe was located near mountain streams flowing from the Kugitangtau range in southern Uzbekistan. It was discovered in 1958 by D. I. Albaum and fully excavated between 1969-1974 by A. Askarov. Finds from Southern Uzbekistan showed the region was one of the centers of ancient agricultural civilization in the East. Sapallitepa became one of the earliest known sedentary farming sites of Northern Bactria from the Mature Bronze Age. The site consisted of a fortress and surrounding settlement. The fortress, about 1 hectare in size, had triple defensive walls and over 150 rooms arranged into quarters separated by narrow streets. A. Askarov considered it an independent archaeological culture linked with sites in Northern Afghanistan and other parts of Surkhandarya, including Djarkutan. The population formed part of a broader ethnocultural network of related sedentary farming tribes across the region. The skulls from Sapallitepa belong to a single morphological type in both males and females. Most are long-headed with ellipsoid or ovoid shapes; a few broader skulls are considered normal variation rather than evidence of brachycephalic admixture. The series is characterized by narrow, well-profiled faces, medium-high orbits, and projecting noses. Overall, the population shows strongly Europoid features and is closest to Bronze Age eastern Mediterranean-type groups from northeastern Iran, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, including Djarkutan.

A 23 year old developer randomly found an open-source trading bot on GitHub. The repo already had 899 stars, so he decided to test it on a small account. He launched it in the evening. By morning, the account was up $280. The interesting part is that the bot wasn’t trying to predict Bitcoin or Solana. It barely predicted anything at all. The system monitored multiple markets at the same time and looked for moments when price or liquidity became unusually attractive. One module scanned Polymarket. Another watched Binance. A third monitored liquidity and cancelled trades whenever the risk got too high. While he was asleep, the system kept scanning markets and only executed trades that passed its filters. In the morning, he just opened Telegram and saw the list of filled orders. And this is the weird part: a few years ago, infrastructure like this would have looked like an internal tool at a small trading firm. Now you can find a similar stack sitting publicly on GitHub. GPT Image 2 + Seedance 2.0 on mitte.ai Jump Rope Choreography I’m still testing different storyboard approaches. I don’t think there’s a single “correct” storyboard system. You should use a storyboard style that fits the specific scene and type of video you want to create. Even though current video models don’t follow storyboards 100% yet, I think future versions will dramatically improve in this area and storyboard usage will become essential. Right now, you can already generate useful storyboards just by describing your idea. Soon, I’ll also share a prompt system I’ve been building that seems to work well for different storyboard types. You can find the Seedance 2.0 prompt used for this video in the replies.
