I just concluded a 90-minute lunch in the West Wing with President Donald J. Trump on School Choice with leaders from across the country. The President is all in on School Choice and will help in any way needed to be sure School Choice finally passes through the Texas House. We will pass our School Choice bill, #SB2, out of the Senate next Wednesday. Senator Creighton has done a phenomenal job on this issue. I stayed until 4AM to hear every last family testify against HB 5468 and will fight hard against passage of the bill in the Senate. Our state government and DCF continue to fail to deliver the services that are their responsibility at the standard that we all hold in Connecticut, yet they want more power over the private school and home school decisions of families. Our state government should focus on protecting the safety of those actually in danger and delivering a great caliber of public education rather than taking more power. Books with graphic sexual illustrations and stories telling elementary children that gender is a choice or that Pride parades are kid-appropriate are ending up in school libraries and classrooms. This isn’t neutral education. It’s confusing young kids about basic biology and identity, exposing them to adult themes way too early, and chipping away at the values parents actually want to pass down.
