This is an awesome map. I’ve always wanted to see this. Look how consistently the west is in some type of drought. Living in the High Plains I can attest to this.

Pretty informative. Biggest question I have is did they only start monitoring drought conditions in 2000?

i think they monitored it in this format specifically starting in 2000, but before that they most definitely did monitor drought the difference being the medium/format with the internet the 90's 2000's. probably prior to the mid 1990's, the only way you could get this data was from advanced weather terminals that were fed NOAA data
