Athleticism helps in soccer but the key driver is skill/technique with the ball. The top players have been playing since age 3-5 years old. Davies and Walker didn’t make it just because they were fast.

Keep thinking that lol

You started watching football 2 minutes ago and you have opinions 😂

Whatever helps you sleep at night bud

@SahelPaleTales You're dumb af. You don't even understand what you're watching

@SahelPaleTales First you need to figure out where you’re watching FROM. Then you can try to comprehend the sport. Is it Kenya or Washington D.C., USA ??? Mann be fckn fr 😭😂😂😂

Eh he actually has more of a clue than you. Kyle Walker, Alphonso Davies, and Mbappe all have elite level intelligence and technical ability to accompany their speed. Sergio busquets, luka modric, xavi, iniesta, zidane: all average athletes that were elite footballers. Also Mbappe runs a pretty average 40 at 4.4

Sir your screen name is after one of the worst offensive coordinators I’ve ever seen at my NFL Club. Plz sit this one out. You’re already confused

Him pronouncing it as “Bayern Munchen” should tell you all you need to know about his ball knowledge

You are shit at analyzing player profiles

Stick to fitness enthusiasm in Qatar and Kenya bud this shit ain’t for you 😂

The fact that there are so many West and East Africans cooning out for their imperialist masters is mind boggling 😵💫 attacking and disagreeing just cuz I’m proud to be from Murcia 😂

BEFORE you comment, LISTEN and COMPREHEND what I’m saying. Here it is in Layman’s terms: You can’t talk out of both sides of your mouth and expect people not to notice or call you out. Just be balanced.

athleticism is not a special in soccer. do you think coaches didn't first try using the fastest and strongest players? Usain bolt tried to play soccer professionally in 2018 but he was so bad he couldn't secure a professional contract. skill and intelligence are primary

Just tweet in your native tongue bro and let @grok translate I have no clue how to respond to your level of comprehension

Objectively all these soccer players are athletic. But the idea that you need a 40 inch vertical or need to run a 4.3 40 is nonsense for soccer. There is certainly an intellectual part of the game which comes with playing any game for an extended period of time. Managers jobs are to focus on the tactical part. The issue here is that theres prolly to much of a focus on intangibles like speed or height, rather than balancing that emphasis (which is helpful and needed), with the tactical side of the game. Thats what we lack here. Also, a much more obviously and striaght forward reason is that the best players dont play here. Peoooe come here to play baskwtball and football and baseball. So idk why the same isnt applied to sending our young talent over to Europe sooner rather than later. Also saying Davies abd Walker are only pros bc of speed is asinine. Their technical ability is ten times that of an MLS player

This one big long ass run-on sentence so I’ll just address the first part cuz that’s comprehensible. Cristiano does have a 40 inch vert and runs a 4.3. The fact you have ideations of “the idea that you need” is already wrong at your foundational sentence lol Let’s try again fam

Frankly couldnt give a fuck about grammar. Cristiano didnt make it in professional soccer bc of his vertical. You sound stupid. It’s an intangible that certainly helps. Professionals are professionals bc of technical ability. Obviously any athlete thats a professional has a baseline of athleticism. Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out

Oh so you can say that CR7s athleticism is an intangible but then acknowledge when someone’s “baseline athleticism” is needed but that’s not true because there are so many individuals who are pros that are below that “baseline” you set lmfao the jokes write themselves

I honestly don’t know if ur joking but I’m gonna opt out of entertaining you today. Enjoy ur World Cup

Please look up adama traore. Probably the fastest and strongest player of this generation but he doesn’t play for a big club. The most important thing when it comes to football is on ball techique how fast you can move with the ball this is very different from natural speed

Adama not only came from the best academy in the world but also played for the BIGGEST club ITW, not once but twice. What are you on about sir?

@D6niel_08 I think the key distinction is his sentence is he said “plays” not “played” as in currently. You can see his stint at Barcelona was nothing special at all. I would even call it disappointing even.

@D6niel_08 Fair point that I would agree too. But the fact remains the main reason Adama even played at Barça for the second time was his scintillating pace that the squad lacked when Dembele left.

@Jakeyd18 Of all the players in the goat debate(Pepe, maradona, Messi, Ronaldo) only Ronaldo can be considered “athletic” but one things they all had in common was there control of the ball. It almost felt like they could command the ball to do what ever they wanted. When it comes to soccer

@Jakeyd18 When it comes to soccer we don’t talk about vertical jump, bench press, and all those metric to judge how good u’re going to be.

@Jakeyd18 But yet those things are reasons why people call or called Cristiano the GOAT. So that’s funny lol

Bro thank god you said this shit this dude is the worst. This is America, quit trying to jock the flow of other nations and develop your own identity.

It’s the British guys fam. They’re upset Americans are catching on to that they really don’t know shit and need to fck off outta our sport lol

Dude says stuff so matter a fact too😂😂 He’ll consistently use Messi as an example trying to like he some frail dude. In reality Messi is so so strong in regards to his core & making him explosive. It’s a big reason why he is so good.

Thank you for not being a bot Hamza🫡

Ironic you’re calling people pseudo intellectuals

U clearly never played this sport ever with ppl who actually can play 🤣 raw speed doestvtransilate to technique, shot power and decision making under pressure with your feet a f everything else other than your hands , u ppl don’t get it

Arsene himself said Ages 14 to 17 (The First Floor / Physicality): This stage reveals whether a player's body will respond to their brain with enough pace and strength to cope with the elite level. This is also the stage as you can see with a quick AI search kids get cut.

Wow it’s amazing how some British people can get it but @PaulSpacey is too insecure too admit when he’s outclassed by someone he thinks is an “outsider” lmfao

Watch Garnacho and you will get the man's point. Raw speed is overated

Then why is Garnacho a professional at the highest of levels??

Because raw speed being overrated has never stopped people from trying to use it as a weapon. People still bring knives to bomb fights

this retard has no idea what "diminishing returns" means

Messi is not athletic when you compare him to other professional players, him small frame is actually used to his advantage. And he is probably the best oat

This is some slow shi*

Thank God I got more common sense than you tho 😉

dude shut the fuck up Paul is right... and Paul did not say anything to condemn athleticism your retard ass just pop up my phone like ya trying to kiss me, spilling out nonsense out of your god damn trash mouth. and it's not "bayer munchen" it is "Bayern Munickh"

😂😂😂paul don’t know shit about football

People who haven't kicked a soccer ball been having so much to say. Talmabout "Alphonso is only at Bayern because of his speed..." He uses his speed to his advantage, he good at the game. In a game between Bayern and Psg in previous UEFA, he pocketed Messi.

As an outsider looking in. You guys are doing fine. I think once the MLS grows and you can incorporate lower leagues and relegations more people will take US Soccer more seriously. But this showing at the WC so far is proof that when your players are no pushovers… at all

@PaulSpacey just want you here Uncle

Your point is really not hard to get so I dont know why people in comments are crashing out lol

They bored is all lol

Nah, this right. We, in America, are obsessed with 40 times. That’s one reason why the NFL’s level of play is subpar and everybody’s running the same bullshit offense with one read. Mbappe’s speed is an important part of his game, however, it would mean nothing without his skill.

Who is Paul spacey

If you don’t have extensive knowledge on the sport why are you making claims about it?

Messi is slow when you really look at it

lol you not keepin it a bean but expect others to. Paul is wrong, but so are you

You had more characters to use but chose not to? You false advertising as a chef my boy. Fix that shit

Yeahhhh, are you actually trying to have dialogue or are you just insulting everyone who combats your point? lol

You insulted me and my point but chose not to use your characters to explain? Again false advertising as a chef. I thought you was pose to be the one cooking???

Kyle Walker was the best defender England had and you’re saying it was just because he was fast? Like come on now you’re also reaching with your take.

Lmfao the fact you think he was Englands best defender is the funny part. The fact you don’t think his pace wasn’t the main reason or had nothing to do with it is HILARIOUS. Let’s ask some real English fans if it was him or John Stones when both players especially

John Stones was way too inconsistent. Man City fans will tell you that. Kyle was one of the only ones that gave you consistency over the years. But either way, him being a world class player was not just because of his pace don’t be daft.

Lmao you think Kyle Walker was World Class?? Yeah I’m out. Niggas tryna put Walker on the same level as Dani Alves 😂😂✌🏾

Ronaldo 9 was like Luka just nsturally gifted never had to be in full shape 😭

Apparently Paul didn’t see the Columbia vs DRC match last night

It’s funny because the team I follow, Liverpool, had a huge problem this year because they didn’t have enough speed on the wings. Salah on the right wing is an incredible player, but is getting older and losing his speed, and he looked like half the player he used to be.

Well don’t I feel vindicated. Thanks again Dom 🫡🔥🙏🏾🤲🏼

The only athletic thing that can help in football is core strength and agility, beyond that, décision making and movement which is basically intelligence… raw speed can be addressed by good timing from the opposition, prime AC Milan defense would lock you down doesn’t matter how fast you are and trust me when a fast player is faced with an unmovable object (Gatuso) speed lose.

You can never be faster than the ball, that’s the point of diminishing return. You just get tired in the end.

Stick to baseball buddy What the fuck are you on about Comparing baseball to football 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Athleticism is just as important as technical ability and skill. Your athleticism affects your ability to maintain technique when performing at a high intensity. If athleticism wasn’t important they wouldn’t focus on it during pre season.

Athleticism is only one part of a footballer. Not to mention, IQ, football IQ, teammate chemistry and other intangibles. There are many great players that are average physicality who’ve impacted the game.
