🚨Utah Valley University has canceled their controversial commencement speaker Sharon McMahon after massive backlash over her tone-deaf attacks in the immediate aftermath of Charlie's assassination. The school announced minutes ago they’re scrapping the keynote entirely — their largest graduating class ever (13,400+ students) will now have NO speaker on... April 29. UVU is blaming “increased safety concerns” for the reversal ... but let’s be real: they picked a speaker who tried to explain Charlie as a figure of “bigotry and hate” instead of condemning the political violence that stole his life. Nobody was making threats. Conservatives, students, and Utah leaders like Sen. Mike Lee simply called out this insulting, tone-deaf choice for a campus still mourning, which is our free speech right to do so. This was a terrible decision from the start. During the first part of the opening keynote, the words "If we lose our democracies Open Source is irrelevant" adorned a slide. Some other key quotes from the FOSDEM 2026 Opening Keynote (during which the speaker got very emotional, vulgar, and broke down multiple times). I once stood on the ground where Charlie Kirk was murdered, watching Utah Valley University (UVU) erupt into chaos over an invited political speaker. In 2004, UVU (then UVSC) invited liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to speak 2 weeks before election day. Moore had just released "Fahrenheit 9/11", a documentary which aggressively criticized incumbent President George W Bush. So you can imagine the outrage to Moore's invitation to speak in the heart of a solid red county in a solid red state. The day that Moore's appearance was announced, I grabbed my video camera and drove to UVU to document the fallout. I ended up filming, nonstop, for months. Orem, Utah - a quiet Mormon town nicknamed "Family City USA" - was ignited with rage. There were death threats, bribes, lawsuits, and furious people on both sides screaming at each other. Wealthy Mormons tried everything in their power to cancel Moore's appearance while Moore's supporters fought tooth and nail to make sure it happened. In the center of all this were the 2 UVU students who had invited Moore in the first place. They were targeted with threats and their lives became a living hell. Law enforcement suggested they wear bulletproof vests. They were also individually sued by a wealthy local conservative. Extremely stressful for 2 college kids. As I interviewed them, they laughed at the idea that their lives might in danger for inviting someone to speak at a university. It was completely foreign to them that blood would be shed or that fists (or even bullets) would fly. That seemed like utter madness, an impossibility. And it was the same for me, on the other side of the camera. The potential for violence was always in the back of my head, but not murder, not cold-blooded murder. Killing someone in the quaint town of Orem, UT simply because you disagreed with them politically? At the time, an alien invasion seemed more likely. Now, here I am 21 years later, watching an invited speaker at UVU get murdered while sharing their political beliefs. Charlie Kirk's blood spilled onto the same ground where I once stood, camera in hand, and thought, "No one's actually going to pull a trigger, are they?" Charlie's Kirk's blood spilled and I got an answer to my question. I am shocked and heartbroken. Because a vibrant life was violently snuffed out. And because I no longer recognize the place where I once stood, once spoke, once lived. My film "This Divided State" captured a microcosm of how America was at one point in time. We no longer live there.

I have seen mixed reactions from a section of the public regarding my decision to nominate the Mawogola North MP Aine Sodo Kaguta. I understand the backlash and I absorb it in good faith. But well here is why I did so; my move was sarcastic and intended to address the issue of nepotism which has largely characterized the NRM regime. A single family has dominated all the arms of government (cabinet, judiciary and executive) and they now decide how these other arms should be constituted. They have demonstrated that they can decide who becomes Speaker or Chief Justice yet these two arms of government are meant to be autonomous. It is against this background that I decided that Hon. Sodo, a member of the ‘First family’ equally takes up the position of the Deputy Speaker since their family lust for authority and power is insatiable. To comrades who have not understood my move, please be guided that this was entirely sarcastic and that can be judged from the diction that I used to drive my point. Thank you! #PeoplePowerOurPower

We’re launching a campus organization, inspired by Charlie Kirk! A few months before Charlie Kirk was shot dead on a university campus, I had a long conversation with him — almost an hour. He was worried about Canadian universities. The cancel culture. The silencing of conservative students. The indoctrination factories he had spent his entire career fighting south of the border. He had seen it up close, and he asked me: were we going to fight back? I told him yes. Then, on September 10, 2025, a politically motivated sniper climbed onto a rooftop at Utah Valley University and put a bullet in Charlie Kirk’s neck while he was doing exactly what he always did — standing up for free speech on a university campus. I’ve thought about that conversation a lot since then. Because Charlie understood something that too many people on our side still refuse to face: the university campus isn’t just where young people go to get degrees. It’s where the woke mob is manufactured. It’s where the cancel culture foot soldiers are recruited, trained, and radicalised — before being sent out into the world to tear down everything we hold dear. We’ve made real gains. Independent media is getting stronger. We win (sometimes) in the courts. And the battle for free speech has new allies, like Elon Musk and his social media platform, X. But the woke machine at our universities is still running at full capacity. You know the stories: Lindsay Shepherd was a 22-year-old teaching assistant at Wilfrid Laurier University. She showed a short video clip of Jordan Peterson in class — as part of a lecture on a controversial topic. Her professors hauled her into an interrogation and compared her to a Nazi showing propaganda films. This past January, Conservative MP Garnett Genuis was refused permission to hold an event at York University. A sitting Member of Parliament — barred from speaking to students. Those are just the stories that got coverage. Every day, thousands of our students sit down, stay quiet, and self-censor — terrified of being destroyed by the mob before their careers have even started. And nobody is fighting for them. If we don’t fight at the source — inside the lecture halls and student unions where the actual indoctrination happens — we’re only ever chopping heads off a hydra. It will keep growing new ones. And right now, on Canadian campuses, our side has nobody. The Conservative Party’s campus clubs are too nervous to stick their necks out for anyone — they don’t want to risk their political careers. No think tank is focused on campuses. The faith communities, the advocacy organizations — all doing important work, but few of them are walking through the doors of our universities. That is why The Democracy Fund (The Democracy Fund) is launching Canadian Students for Free Speech — a TDF-led national network that will establish student-led, officially recognized free speech clubs on every post-secondary campus in Canada. Our students will not face the mob alone. To do this properly, The Democracy Fund is hiring a full-time National Campus Coordinator. This is a real, demanding job. This person will travel coast to coast — from UBC to Dalhousie — recruiting student leaders, running training weekends, coordinating speaker tours, managing club applications, and fielding that call at midnight when a dean suddenly decides to cancel a student event. They will be the spine of the entire operation. Beyond the salary, there are real costs to account for: printed materials for clubs at dozens of campuses, travel expenses for our speakers, legal fees when universities try to block or deregister our clubs, and the infrastructure to run a national student network. The politicisation of the protests in the name of students is now complete. After days of violence, vandalism and orchestrated disruption, the Opposition has abandoned any pretence that this was about students. Instead of debating the issue in Parliament, they have chosen street politics and are now busy fighting among themselves over who deserves credit. It has descended into: ॰ AAP vs Congress ॰ Congress vs SP ॰ Sonam vs Congress ॰ Sonam vs Dipke and Saurav Das ॰ Dhaiya vs Dipke The only losers in this political slugfest are genuine students, whose concerns have been hijacked for partisan ends. Sonam Wangchuk’s wife castigating Rahul Gandhi only shows that she has picked a side, the side sponsoring the politics of the street veto. Tragic. We witnessed similar scenes unfold in Ladakh last year. The Wangchuks’ chequered record is once again on display. It is our collective responsibility to stand up for students and protect their interests. They must not be reduced to cannon fodder in the Opposition’s cynical political games. Genuine students deserve solutions, not sponsored chaos; dialogue, not violence; and accountability, not political one-upmanship.

Sainik School Tragedy: Bail Hearing Ends in Controversy In a shocking turn of events, the bail hearing of the accused students in the Sainik School student death case ended with the Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) recusing himself from giving an order. They have alleged that the accused students, were seen playing and eating with other students after the Principal Magistrate sent the 8 CCLs(child in conflict with law) under the custody of Vice Principal of Sainik School on 4th of November, which has further fueled their anger and frustration. The CCTV footage of the incident has revealed chilling details about the extent of the bullying and harassment that the victim suffered. According to the footage, the Class 8 students started giving punishment to Haro for 30 minutes, during which his legs were shivering and after that the Class 10 students collectively punished all the Class 7 students together, and then they punished the victim alongside with a another student and then again they punished the victim alone. The footage also shows that a Class 11 student intervened to stop the punishment, but the damage had already been done. The victim was allegedly harassed mentally and physically for three hours before the incident occurred. The family has demanded that the accused students be removed from the school and placed in a juvenile home until the case is resolved. They have also demanded that the school take strict measures to prevent bullying and ensure the safety of all students. Three more students have been implicated in the incident. Initially, it was stated that these three students were not involved, but a review of the CCTV footage has revealed that they were indeed involved in the alleged ragging and physical a result, the parents of the victim have announced that they will file a complaint against these three students as well.
