🇺🇸 Vernius Systems has unveiled an active radar seeker for interceptor UAVs. The video demonstrated a homing head called Archimedes 1A, which was integrated into the Ukrainian STING interceptor UAV developed by Wild Hornets. The seeker can detect targets at a range of 1+ km, costs around $4,000, and... enables automated interception or UAV detection in conditions of poor visibility. The Archimedes 1A seeker could most likely also be used on jet-powered interceptor UAVs (such as Alexa Spatium), potentially allowing them to intercept jet-powered drones such as the Geran-3, Geran-4, and Geran-5. Automated guidance could help eliminate the problem of the operator having only a minimal reaction time.show more

Day 15 of Russia's new strike campaign on port infrastructure of Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts: Today, Russia launched at least 5 Kh-59/69 cruise missiles, 2 Oniks supersonic cruise missiles, 3 Banderol jet-drones, 13 Geran-3/4 jet-drones, and 34 Geran-2/Gerbera drones. Ukrainian air defence was able to shoot down 2-3 of the Kh-59/69 cruise missiles, which were targeting the Odesa Port. He stated that interceptions of Russian jet powered drones are minimal because of the increased speed and altitude of the drones. Ukraine relies heavily on anti-air gunners and interceptor drones to shoot down Russian Gerans. In previous years, the Russian Geran-2 drones (which were most prominent) were low flying and had a slow cruising speed. This made shooting them down with cheaper means easier. However, these new Russian jet powered Gerans fly too high and fast to be intercepted by anti-air gunners and interceptor drones. This forces Ukraine to have to utilize missile interceptors or fighter jets leading to more successful impacts. Eventually Ukraine will find a solution, but until they do Russia will keep hammering major cities across the country for months to come. For Ukraine's sake, I hope they find a solution before winter.

Perhaps one of the first cases of AFU being able to successfully detect and target a mobile Geran launcher. One can only wonder why the Ukrainians are not striking the Donetsk airport more often, as it is a known, major storage and launch base for Russian Shaheds. 🇺🇦🦅 Ukraine is turning drone training itself into another tool of the air-defense war, with BlueBird Tech unveiling the new Bebradron-M designed to prepare interceptor crews against realistic aerial targets. The fixed-wing UAV is designed primarily for training interceptor-drone operators, allowing crews to practice detection, pursuit and interception against a real flying target. It can also act as a decoy to expose enemy positions and simulate mass aerial raids, with foil material added to increase its radar signature. Bebradron-M has a range of up to 30 km, endurance of 25 minutes, operates at 200–700 meters, and can reach speeds of up to 115 km/h. The concept reflects Ukraine’s increasingly systematic approach to the drone war. Instead of merely producing more interceptors, Kyiv is building the training ecosystem needed to make their operators more effective while developing inexpensive decoys capable of forcing Russian air defenses to reveal themselves or waste resources. In an attritional air war, making the enemy spend an expensive interceptor or expose a radar position against a cheap target can be almost as valuable as destroying the target directly.
