Opossums are so cool. Hideous. But cool. Playing dead is their defense mechanism. They also have such a low blood temp they literally cannot carry rabies. Hate ticks? Cool, a single opossum can consume over 5.000 a year.

Just to help fully context for anyone who didn't take time to read about wildlife. Coyotes and other predators often mark their "kills" or food by urinating on them, but in this case, when the coyote smells something that seems "off" or rancid (like an opossum playing dead), it may urinate on it as a way to mark it or indicate to other animals that the item is undesirable to eat. This behavior might stem from a natural instinct to avoid spoiled or dangerous food, thus preventing the coyote or other predators from consuming something harmful.

FUN FACT: Opossums playing dead is not something they can control. Its involuntary and it can last up to a few hours. They go into a comatose state out of no where if they feel threatened. They have no control over this.

Some people pay good money to be treated that way.
