Dylan Field on his biggest learnings from Figma’s 0 to 1 phase Figma’s 0 to 1 phase was notoriously long. The company was founded in 2012, but it took four years before they publicly launched their product in 2016. Figma co-founder Dylan Field reflects on what he learned from this period: “From August 2012 to June of 2013, that was a period where we were pivoting constantly trying lots of things. But then we had a thesis, felt like there was an opportunity, and started to build it out more. Then it was like, ‘Okay, this is going to take a while.’ In retrospect, we were lucky to have raised money and have resources, but I should have hired faster once we started to get signal from the market that we had product/market fit.” Dylan recalls going to a user study with a friend who was a designer at Coursera. The following day, his friend sent over a 12-page document listing all of the stuff he wanted Dylan to build into Figma. “I should’ve taken something like that and gone, ‘Okay, this is clear product/market pull.’ The market was pulling the product out of us. I should’ve then gone and hired faster. But instead I was still very cautious. And so that’s something where I wish — if I could go back in time — we would’ve gone a little faster there.” Sam Altman gives similar advice: “In the early days, when you’re experimenting and zig zagging, you’re like a fast little speed boat and want to be able to turn the whole company on a dime. You can’t do that if you’re a big company—cash burn aside, which is another problem. The flexibility of the company basically decreases with the square of the number of employees, so you want to stay really small until you’re sure things are working. $MSTR It looks increasingly likely that some Bitcoin has been sold to help fund the upcoming $STRC dividend payment on May 31st. And honestly, if you’ve been following the company closely, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Both Saylor and Phong have repeatedly hinted since the earnings call that Bitcoin sales were now part of the company’s available capital allocation levers. Given that $MSTR hasn’t exactly been trading in strength, utilizing some of the unrealized tax losses tied to higher-cost-basis Bitcoin purchases, while that window still exists, actually makes a lot of sense. (Credit to ₿itcoin ₿eliever who’s put out extensive work predicting this) Personally, I think it’s a good decision. It shows the evolution of the company and its willingness to actively utilize another lever from its evolving playbook, which ultimately only strengthens its capital market operations over time. That said, if a Bitcoin sale is officially announced next week, shareholders should probably prepare for the narrative that follows. The headlines will inevitably paint it negatively. The bears will claim it’s over. And X will most certainly become a colorful place for a couple weeks. But nothing changes fundamentally. Yes. And this is not a new idea but one that I have been consistent on for a long time. The clip below is from one of my Youtube videos that was shared on my Youtube channel 9 months ago- back when Bitcoin was trading just under 100k and many were saying that the "cycle top was in". In this sub 2 minute clip I break down my expectations if the top WAS in (I also said I didn't believe this to be the case) and shared why even if our top was in I would still expect our massive alt season. Of course, our top was in fact NOT in, and we went on to make a fresh impulse off the 74k level. That being said, the same logic I applied at that time can be applied to today's situation if we were to assume once again that the top is already in (and again, I don't believe it is). Bottom line- whether the top is in or not- it doesn't change the fact that the best is yet to come for alts as I have repeated for years now that the biggest alt season will come post $BTC top, whether that is NOW or after $BTC climbs higher, somewhere above 150k+ (which is my expectation as long as 74k is not breached).

Yes. And this is not a new idea but one that I have been consistent on for a long time. The clip below is from one of my Youtube videos that was shared on my Youtube channel 9 months ago- back when Bitcoin was trading just under 100k and many were saying that the "cycle top was in". In this sub 2 minute clip I break down my expectations if the top WAS in (I also said I didn't believe this to be the case) and shared why even if our top was in I would still expect our massive alt season. Of course, our top was in fact NOT in, and we went on to make a fresh impulse off the 74k level. That being said, the same logic I applied at that time can be applied to today's situation if we were to assume once again that the top is already in (and again, I don't believe it is). Bottom line- whether the top is in or not- it doesn't change the fact that the best is yet to come for alts as I have repeated for years now that the biggest alt season will come post $BTC top, whether that is NOW or after $BTC climbs higher, somewhere above 150k+ (which is my expectation as long as 74k is not breached).

And if you don’t do it, I’m prepared to rebuild it all from scratch again. And he said anyone who rules Singapore has to have iron in their veins. I will rebuild it all from scratch. I was watching videos like that and was like this is what I need to do as a leader. It was very inspiring. There are moments like that. You have to stand up and say: We're going in this direction and if you're not on board with it, that’s okay, you can leave. But we're going this way. That's leadership.

But the whole Founders Fund thesis was always no, you need the founder to run the company. But on the company side, you have to be in love with the idea. It's not that rational to start a company.
