I thought it was to hang them on a nail. I'm going upstairs to my wood shop today and test this out. I don't know when I might use it, but it is still interesting to know...

Understand.

I use the hole to pull wire back through the hole I just drilled.

Thats awesome.

Or one could save hours with a drill press and a wooden dowel.

@aj_inapi No way! Holy cow. Always wondered why they have a hole. Thanks Robert. My toolbox is improving 💯👍

@aj_inapi Seriously.

@HistorianUSA1 Very cool trick! We use those holes for pulling wire or pull strings/jet line back through whatever we have just drilled.

@HistorianUSA1 Right understand.

Would take a half day to shape that tenon to fit. 🤣

@helen44767171

@helen44767171 Awsome.

works great.....until the bit is sharpened

Wow, everything seen w/tools has purpose. Reminder to self to be curious.

Exactly.

@34rthhasrisen Smart man

@34rthhasrisen You can say that again.

Very cool!

Definitely.

I learned something new today, about something I've used for over 40 years. My day is now complete!😉

Yes absolutely right.!

I’ll be dang!

Thanks. Always learn or just fade away.

We really do forsure!!

According to Google...

Wow, indeed!

😱 GTFOH! Learn something new everyday. Thanks Robert!

We really do.

Interesting idea but the actual function of the hole is to pull wires through a drilled hole.

i never knew that, thanks.

No problem.

I use it to run a twist tie to bundle them all together

@TonyLaneNV Hell yea. lol. The more you know 🌈 ⭐️

@TonyLaneNV Right.

It’s to pull a wire through once you drill a hole in your studs while wiring a home.

WRONG!!! Historically and accurately the spade bit was designed as an electrician's tool. The hole in the bit is there to allow the electrician to pull a line (or string) back through a series of holes for wire pulling at a later time. DON'T BELIEVE ME?🤨

Whats more interesting is the reason why he would ever wanna make a hole in the round piece insted of the square ones side insted of its head😅

As many times as I've used a spade bit I can't believe it's until I'm today's years old to learn this!!!

I like that one…..🧐

Interesting. Never knew that.

Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for the tip pretty cool.

😮

I call bullshit on that

I never knew that!

@no_god_nowhere It has been too long since I saw my wife. I need to get my mind out of the gutter.
