Disagree. Gambling is pure chance. Vibe coding at least rewards taste and judgment about what to build. The person who knows what good looks like can ship 10x faster with AI than the one who just prompts randomly. The skill shifted from writing code to knowing what code should do.

all I need is a dashboard that allows me to bet on predictions if this prompt will work or not

not in agreement, but let's assume i agreed but so is building a biz/startup you're betting time, money, and reputation on an idea that might not work at least with vibecoding, your iteration speed is 10x faster better odds tbh

You inspire me, Alberta! Thanks to you, I've made a meme:

This is why you still need to know how to code.

Gambling metaphor is right. And like gambling, losses are hidden until they blow up. We had vibe-coded agents pass code review then quietly start doing things nobody expected 2 weeks into prod. What's the testing gate before anyone ships these?

Why make hyperbole videos like this? It doesn't waste $2800 on tokens for some JavaScript/TypeScript project. It never forgets everything it knows about JavaScript syntax. Engagement farming for the purpose of clout?

Why do people say vibe coding leads to errors and other issues? I’ve had errors, but I fixed them easily. I don’t understand how others end up with fatal errors, I’ve never had one.

The difficulty and I image is mostly left out for shock value, is that it is not one or the other. either it "one shots" your software or you plod away dutifully yourself. 1.) you write buts yourself. 2.) leveraging new tools requires effort. investment. extra thinking.

These takes are hilariously bad. Ever heard the term, "garbage in garbage out"? Here are my receipts:

Vibe Coding addiction is a real thing now isn't it?

It doesn't feel like gambling when I create functioning task-specific software for a project i'm working on. I've currently engineered an LLM decompiling method for Playstation 1 games, and I don't feel like I've gambled on anything as all of the software has worked as intended.

Uh, by that definition. Normal coding is the same thing, only we're well prepared.

No lie. I faced this problem once where the AI found new ways to solve the problem i was not familiar with other than my way of doing things. I had to reverse all the processes and refactor my code. Coded it myself, made a boilerplate code and asked AI to follow the pattern.

Agentic coding is not "vibe coding"

Now that I think about it, asking a colleague to fix something real quick is kinda gambling too

Fascinating watching these coders, seeing the end of the line rapidly approaching, try to deny its inevitability.

I see you're getting great engagement. That's to be expected. But you're wrong. There's so much about the analogy that's off.

Only if you don't know what you're doing. Same with any tool. A surgeon with a scalpel isn't gambling. Someone who just picked one up is. The issue isn't vibe coding, it's people shipping things they can't maintain or debug. What's the line between using AI well and just vibing into production?

Not disputing, but I just don’t understand. I’ve used frameworks who’s lines of code are still a black box to me til this day. I’ve been a gambler all along, the stakes just changed.

Either you or someone you know got taken for $2800 worth of tokens OR youre hyperbolizing the non-deterministic nature of regular ass prompts. Solid SWE/SDLC workflows, TDD/focused unit testing, agentic hooks and/or custom made prompts fix 95% of the issues youre having. ALSO I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MODEL *MAKE UP A LANGUAGE OR FORGET ONE*. Thats sheer bullshit and if not, thats user fucking error.

Now we have gacha-style "buddies" in our coding agents that grow and get shiny the more tokens you burn. 🔥 Anyone starting to think these AI companies are keenly aware of this effect?

I think I have a different idea of what vibe coding is… Isn’t vibecoding where you code in the editor with autocomplete and suggestions? That died about 3 months ago lol. Now people are using ai to fully write the code.

not exactly. gambling has negative expected value. vibe coding has positive expected value if you ship fast and validate before going deep. the risk is not understanding what you built when it breaks

nah gambling has worse odds tbh at least with vibe coding you might accidentally ship something that makes money. with gambling you just get a free drink and regret the real gambling is paying a dev agency $50k to build you a crud app that could be vibe coded in a weekend
