We had constructed 2 rain water harvesting tanks. One behind the Sindh Secretariat (100,000 gallons capacity) and one at Burns Garden (130,000 gallons capacity). Both the interventions have worked out well ensuring that not only the rain water is stored and saved but also the surrounding area remains clear. We will now endeavour to replicate this in other low lying areas of Karachi

Demand Raised in Rajya Sabha to Restore Khadakwasla Dam’s Storage Capacity for Pune’s Water Security! The Khadakwasla Dam, which is crucial for the water supply of Pune city and its surrounding areas, has lost more than half of its original storage capacity due to heavy silt accumulation. While the dam originally had a storage capacity of approximately 3.75 TMC, the extensive accumulation of silt has reduced its current storage capacity to nearly 1.75 TMC. Considering Pune’s growing population, rapid urbanisation and increasing water requirements in the future, this decline in storage capacity is a serious concern for the city’s long-term water security. The impact could be particularly significant during periods of low rainfall. Therefore, I raised the demand in the House that the Central Government should issue necessary directions to restore the storage capacity of the Khadakwasla reservoir, by considering measures such as scientific desilting, watershed restoration, effective silt management, and modernisation of the reservoir. Tshwane-owned water tankers are on the road providing water to residents. We recently announced that we are abandoning contracted services for water tankers. From 1 April, City staff have been working to provide water to residents in need. We visited Hammanskraal hydrant collection points this morning along with Ward Councillors and MMC for Utility Services Cllr Frans Boshielo. While work is underway to stabilise water supply through infrastructure maintenance and repairs, residents must continue to receive adequate water supply. The main reason is that development has taken place over the old, traditional drains that used to carry water from the hills to the Yamuna. We are still dealing with the consequences of this development that happened during the Congress era today. The only way to fix this now is to construct underground tunnels, similar to those built for the Metro, along the paths of the old drains to channel the water through those original routes. What we are doing right now is essentially a 'Band-Aid' solution. It offers some relief, but if we block the water in one place, it finds a way out elsewhere. The government is working on this, and we are arranging the necessary funds."

Just visited Wazirabad water treatment plant (of 134 MGD capacity) which stopped functioning from 13.07.2023 9.50 AM and since it also supplies Raw Water to Okhala(24 MGD) and Chandrawal (105 MGD) Water Treatment Plants, these plants had also stopped producing water. Yesterday evening Okhala WTP was restarted in full capacity and by tomorrow afternoon the other two WTPs will be started. DJB officers are all working 24/7, they have successfully pumped out the flood water from all the four Raw water pump houses and now they are using techniques to dry panels and motors and once they are dried out adequately, they will be put back in the system. At present the treated water in Delhi is down by 271 MGD including Palla's submerged tubewells cumulatively supplying 32 MGD. Honble CM Sri Arvind Kejriwal Ji is checking the work's progress every now and then. Plz share this video especially with people in water deficit areas so that they know that Kejriwal Govt is continuously and vigorously working so that WTPs resume their water production like before at the earliest.
