I am deeply pained and strongly condemn the authorities decision to once again deny the Muslims of Kashmir the basic right to offer Eid prayers at Eidgah and Jama Masjid which have been closed down and I have been detained at home Even at the peak of miltancy during 1990’s Eid prayers were offered at Eidgah , so now when huge claims of “normalcy “ are made everyday by the authorities , why are Muslims being kept away from their religious places and practices? What is the agenda ? Is the collective identify of Kashmiri Muslims a threat to the rulers ? Eidgah and Jama Masjid belong to the people. Barring them from these sacred spaces even on Eid reflects an oppressive and authoritarian approach that prevails in Kashmir today.

.Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Released After Three Days of House Arrest, Visits Residence of Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat in Botingoo Sopore to Offer Condolences Sopore, September 20 2025 : After three days of house detention, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Umar Farooq was released early this morning and allowed to visit the Botingoo, Sopore residence of senior Hurriyat leader and its former Chairman, Prof. Abdul Ghani Bhat, who passed away on Wednesday. Speaking at the occasion, Mirwaiz expressed deep sorrow at Prof. Bhat’s demise, describing it as a personal loss, as the deceased leader was to him an affectionate elder, dear friend, and guide. He deeply regretted that he was not allowed to participate in his jinazah. He said that Prof. Bhat was not only a respected academic and scholar but also a visionary politician who consistently upheld dialogue and moderation as the way forward. His passing, Mirwaiz said, is an irreparable loss for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. At the residence, Mirwaiz offered his sympathies to the family — his sons Mudassir Ghani Bhat, Jahangir Ghani Bhat, and Burhan Ghani Bhat — and other family members. Fatiha Khwani for the maghfirah of the departed soul was held. The objection by the representative of India to Pakistan's mention of Jammu and Kashmir in the Arria Formula meeting was not surprising to us. India, as a party to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, has actually refused to implement the Security Council resolutions on this dispute, and has even refused to cooperate with the United Nations, including the good offices of the Secretary-General, and with all those mechanisms that form part of Chapter VI. As I stated in my statement, Kashmir is an international dispute. It is on the agenda of the Security Council. It was never a part of India, and it is not, and cannot be, part of India — because this was the core question at the heart of these Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The purpose was to determine the status of this territory: whether it wishes to be part of India or Pakistan. That status has not yet been determined, because the resolutions have not been implemented. To assert that Kashmir is a part of India is, in fact, itself a violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions. Earlier today, I had the privilege of joining the congregation at Annoor Mosque Abuja to perform Juma’at prayers. Shortly after, I also joined a host of friends, well-wishers, and family of Alhaji Jibrin Jotinga at the wedding Fatiha of his daughter Juwairiya and her spouse, Ahmed Umar Saleh, at the same mosque. I congratulate the couple and wish them Allah's blessings as they embark on a lifetime journey to build a happy family. -AA
