⚡️🇺🇦🇷🇺There is now confirmation of the first attempts to blind Russian FPV drones by installing small IR spotlights on Ukrainian drones, producing a bright, directional beam aimed at the incoming drone’s camera. In one case, a Ukrainian UGV tried to blind an approaching Russian FPV drone but failed. The second example was more successful a “Baba Yaga” drone was able to confuse the operator of an anti-drone interceptor that was attempting to shoot it down. For now, this cannot be called widespread, but in the future such a blinding system may become an effective method of countering FPV drones, especially fiber-optic-guided ones, which cannot be jammed by electronic warfare at all. And, as can be seen, the system can be installed on both ground and aerial platforms. So it turns out the outdated Passive Protection Systems (PPS) like the Shtora-1 so common in the late Soviet/Russian/Ukranian like the T-90A are state of the art now.

The recent war in southern Lebanon has proven the weaknesses of the Trophy active protection system (APS) installed on the armored vehicles and tanks of the IDF. This footage released by the Hezbollah terrorist organization clearly shows how one of their FPV drones hit a Merkava Mk4 main battle tank of the IDF exactly next to its APS, and you can see that Trophy did not activate to prevent the drone from hitting it. This is not the only Merkava that has been hit during this recent war. We have seen several other cases, whether released by the Hezbollah terrorist organization or others.

Ukrainian heavy drones, which perform various tasks (as a relay, for logistics, mining and destruction), have become an integral part of Ukrainian defense. It is extremely difficult to imagine the battlefield through the eyes of a UA military without this class of drones. For years together with my fighters we have been preparing for the fact that the enemy is about to scale this direction and a similar class of drones will appear in their hands. For the first time I met them during the Kursk operation. But what was my surprise that Russians after 5 years of war have not yet tested these drones and launched them into series. But it will be changed. Undoubtedly, the appearance and scaling of certain drones on both sides is due to the conditions in which they work (for example, Russian INs are not even close to Ukrainian ones), but it is difficult to find arguments for abandoning this class of drones. And Russians are not abandoning them. But they see a significantly smaller role in them than in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Russian plans include the creation of UAV battalions (which are significantly smaller in number of personal than Ukrainian ones) as part of regiments and brigades, where each battalion will have 4 crews of heavy drones. And Russian newly formed SBS forces according to plans should receive two companies of heavy bombers. And I only hope that this should not be a surprise for the Armed Forces of Ukraine as it was in the case with the completely symmetrical and non-innovative actions from «Rubicon». Its range of destruction is more than twice that of the first version; a 30% increase in power; there are built-in high-energy batteries; a reduction in dependence on external power supply.
