Here is what we know so far about Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Israel: 1- The plane was carrying Israelis. No reports say whether they were ordinary Israeli citizens or Israeli army personnel vacationing in the UAE. Israeli army personnel have previously posted about vacations in the UAE following their service in Gaza (photo 1) 2- The Flydubai pilot was an Indian Hindu named Smit Machchhar. Initial Hebrew media reports described him as Emirati citizen. 3- The co-pilot is Omani. He allegedly stabbed the pilot and attempted to dive and crash the plane with Israeli passengers, resulting in a fight between the 2 pilots. Smit eventually managed to unlock the cockpit door. 4- Passengers intervened and subdued the Omani co-pilot, while additional pilots aboard the flight took control of the plane and landed it safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. 5- The Israeli passengers received care from a Saudi crew after landing in Saudi Arabia. 6- The Emirati based Indian pilot, Smit Machchhar, was hospitalized after suffering stab wounds, but his condition has not been officially disclosed. The Omani co-pilot was arrested, and Saudi authorities are interrogating him. Mossad is reportedly involved in the broader investigation, but there is no confirmation that Mossad interrogated him in Saudi Arabia. (Hebrew media) 7- Israeli media initially reported that El Al was planning to evacuate the Israeli passengers from Saudi Arabia to Israel, which would have marked the first overt El Al flight between the 2 countries. However, reportedly Flydubai later sent a replacement aircraft that evacuated the Israeli passengers from Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, directly to Israel.

Brave Indian Captain Smit Machchhar🇮🇳, despite reportedly being stabbed by the Omani co-pilot and being seriously injured and covered in blood, managed to get the cockpit door opened, allowing passengers and crew to intervene. Off duty pilots onboard then reportedly helped take control of the aircraft and bring everyone to safety. Flydubai FZ1073 was carrying around 174 passengers, including 27 children, with most reportedly Israeli. During the incident, the aircraft plunged nearly 14,000 feet in less than a minute before eventually landing safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has described it as an attempted “jihadist terror attack”, although the exact motive remains under investigation. Saudi Arabia allowed the emergency landing, but reportedly refused Israel’s request to send Israeli military aircraft to collect its passengers. What happened inside that cockpit could have ended very differently. The courage shown by the Indian captain, crew, passengers and off duty pilots deserves recognition.

A PILOT ALLEGEDLY TRIED TO KILL THE CAPTAIN MID-FLIGHT. Flight FZ1073 was headed from Dubai to Tel Aviv. One passenger told Fox News the co-pilot stabbed the captain, and the captain collapsed onto the controls. The plane dropped from 33,000 feet to 17,000, circled erratically, and Israel had to scramble fighter jets because it looked like a hijacking. Passengers jumped in, and it sounds like other pilots on board helped get that plane down safely in Saudi Arabia. Those people are heroes. Now we need answers fast. Who was this co-pilot, and why was he in that cockpit? A plane full of people bound for Israel almost went down, and nobody should be shrugging this off.

Captain Smit Machchhar, who was stabbed by his co-pilot aboard a flydubai flight today, spoke on a podcast about a year ago: “When we’re up there and something happens, who’s going to save you? You’ll be lucky if there’s a doctor on the plane, but if not, the flight crew can do it too.”

ONE YEAR AGO, Captain Smit Machchhar was asked what's a bigger high: A smooth landing, or an on-time arrival? His answer: "None. Safe. You don't have to think about on time. They've hired other people to take care of that." "A positive landing. Safe landing where I'm supposed to land. If it turns out smooth, perfect." Today, stabbed by his co-pilot, he still got the cockpit door open so passengers could stop the hijacking. He saved the lives of all 174 passengers, and they had a safe landing. Thank you, Captain Machchhar.

The stories about the Flydubai flight keep changing. First, it was reported that the co-pilot was Ukrainian and the main pilot was Russian. Now, they’re being reported as Omani and Emirati. First, the story was that the co-pilot was attempting to commit suicide and that the pilot stopped him. Now, it’s being reported that the co-pilot stabbed the other pilot and that passengers stopped him. The tail of the aircraft was also damaged due to the descent. Saudi forces have reportedly arrested the suspect. Saudi Arabia denied the Israeli government’s request to send a military aircraft to airlift Israeli citizens stranded in Tabuk after Flydubai Flight #FZ1073. Flydubai is now sending a recovery flight to bring them back to Dubai.
