A bear had been sleeping inside the pit. The animal woke up, saw the protruding legs, and started biting them. The man managed to jump out of the den and began hitting the bear with his hiking sticks, causing the bear to run away. He suffered only minor injuries. What amused people most online was the 3D animation of the incident created by a Japanese TV company for the news report.

The Sahuarita Police Department responded to calls about a bear climbing a tree in Rancho Sahuarita. Arizona Fish and Game assisted the officers and shot the bear with a tranquilizer gun, successfully putting the bear to sleep.
