Volpe gets ahead 2-0 and look what he does with count leverage. Missed a 2-2 FB right down the middle and tries to pull the next breaking pitch away. This is a good example of why he’s consistently a 80-90 OPS+ hitter every year.

It’s not a great idea to return Anthony Volpe to SS right now with the way José Caballero is hitting the ball. Hope the Yankees see it that way as well. Volpe hasn’t earned the SS role, and Caballero is hot. The timing isn’t right to make a switch.

Today I went through every 3-2 pitch Juan Soto saw in the 2025 season. Three things stuck out: 1️⃣ He Doesn’t Expand - he has some of the best strike zone awareness of anyone in the game. When he gets to two strikes, he does not chase or expand the zone. Most players start swinging at pitcher’s pitches. He makes pitchers execute a quality pitch to get him out. 2️⃣ He Competes! -he takes great pride in being a tough out. He battles. He doesn’t give in. He finds a way to get on base. 3️⃣ His Approach - because he’s so willing to use the entire field, his two strike approach does not need to change much. He gets a long look at each pitch because he’s willing to hit the fastball to the opposite field and pull the breaking ball.

Volpe gets absolutely nothing on his throws because of his mechanics. Upper half opens up early, and he ends up guiding the ball to first on the throw because he has no power left by the time he’s releasing the ball. This along with his hesitancy to attack grounders basically gives the runner a few more steps to first than he should have by the time the ball is released.

Does your team have a plan for playing with a yellow card? how about 2? This is a good example of having a yellow card plan. - Change the pitch size / low risk (1 pass plays). Really smart thinking by Leinster and probably won them the game. #RugbyCoaching

This is not a knock on Jasson Dominguez because he’s new in LF. A more experienced LF will make this catch. You can see the short strides Dominguez is taking to the ball. He has shown hesitancy on balls to the deeper parts of LF and he doesn’t have good reads off the bat. Footwork and reads have always been an issue with him. The hope is that he gets comfortable over time but he’s still a liability out there that will result in moments like this.
