Built mine with with 87mm cylinders and a D cam (mid range). Dual port and I used the stock Solex carburetor. The Weber 2bbls seemed to add very little power for a lot more fuel consumption and heat. I found that these engines ran best under 4000 RPM. Anything higher and the main bearings beat out much sooner. I used a die grinder and a burr to smooth down the edge in the exhaust ports. It helped with the higher end torque. 🤔... The engineering in these little engines is impeccable. A near perfect design of just enough, without being too much.

That distributor was on the wrong place…on heavy rainy days water would get in and it wouldn’t start. Had a 1,500 and a 1,600 in the 70s.

Through the years I had multiple types of VW's and loved all of them...!

Needs a 80mm.

The finest engine sound available anywhere. You can stick your V12 Ferraris, your V8 Astons and your straight 6 BMWs!

Mega!! Danke!!! 🤩🤩😍

@phn16 VW cool

So cool!

@etr1985 😉

The #3 cylinder(Upper LH) was notorious for running a little ‘hot’ than the other Cylinders on the VW pancake motor. Reason being was lack of air flow. Utilized for engine cooling, it was restricted on this cylinder due to the vertical placement of the oil cooler(a small coil really) block! For real Homer. 💯

I own a 1998 BMW R1100r boxer twin, twice the horsepower, would be interested in the torque value

🤠🤠

...timing is truly everything

VW changed the block metal. The 1100 cc engine used Magnesium Alloy and was prone when overheating to ignite. This 1200cc engine casing was the beginning of a legacy. 1300cc-1500cc-economical- 1600cc. The Gearboxes also changed. VW invented Synchromesh. No grating gears.

Perfect engine design

✌️Este es el motor del llamado "Escarabajo"👍

me finally getting it into 4th gear at 68km/h

Air-cooled guys stick together 🤘 @zharrispm
