Wait... is this true!?

Pretty much, yup. One of the many reasons why I've always been a fan of Nikola Tesla, the true genius between the two. Edison relentlessly slandered, stole his inventions, bureaucratically blocked his initiatives, and spread propaganda about him at every turn. In 1943 Tesla died an impoverished man because of Edison's ego and malice. It's a lesson to all scientific geniuses who endeavor to make the world a better place.

He was so much of a dick, that to prove Tesla’s alternating current was dangerous over his direct current, he electrocuted an elephant in a public display using AC. (AC is so unsafe, it’s the standard today)

Reminds me of someone else

Creators gather corporate interests and it sucks.

No. Edison was a hard worker and gets flak now because he was more successful than Tesla. He didn't steal ideas and he invented quite a lot. He wasn't perfect, but neither was Tesla who has plenty of really crazy baggage.

Yes. He was an utter complete douche bag.

Edison hired a bunch of scientists/engineers, gave them the room and resources to conduct experiments and then owned the patents they created. He may have helped some, he may even have gave them a bonus if they invented something cool.....this is groks take: "Edison personally invented the electric vote recorder (1869), stock ticker improvements, and quadruplex telegraph (1874). He conceived the phonograph (1877) idea himself but built it with assistants. For later works like the practical light bulb and electric system, he generated core ideas but relied on his Menlo Park team for development and testing."

fight fight fight

The wild story of the three inventors that changed the world will help you decide

Yeah. Edison sold ideas as his own. An argument can be made that these inventions would have never saw the light of day if it weren’t for him. But it’s still snakey af!!!

Edison was made it commercially viable to sell to households. This happens a lot in technology, like Steve Jobs was famous for commercializing pre-built personal computers, and before him was Ed Robets seller of the microcomputers. Prior to them computers were too bulky to sell.

The possibility that most historic named inventors actually stole someone else's idea and inventions and passed them off as there own to get rich is really believable considering human history is full of that.

He was the Elon of his day.

Tesla would agree.

Another thing people should question is Einstein himself like come ON he worked in a Patient office in a time without cameras he probably could have very easily of snuck off with a number of significant scientific inventions.

The guy publicly gave an elephant the Hasan treatment in an attempt to scare the public away from AC power since his push was for DC

Yes.

To be fair Edison did invent a LONG LASTING light bulb with a filament that doesn’t fry after an hour. However the concept wasn’t new.

Yeah, pretty much how it happened

To put it mildly.

That’s why the patent office exists.

From what I've read, yes

unfortunately Yes it is true

Not really.

Edison and Einstein where both Free Masons right? Maybe they where just gatekeepers of their time🤔

Extremely true

He also invented film piracy

😂

Yeah, he really was one.

@grok is this true?

Edison ran a team of experimenters? He paid them, he told them what approaches to use, he organized the businesses and he took the credit. He wasn’t a guy in a garage he was the first R&D executive.

He perfected the filament

Hence Patent laws were introduced. Dont tell some assholes about your new invention.
